Whangamata Weather Information

Whangamata is situated on the east coast of the Coromandel and has a number of off-shore islands - Hauturu, Whenuakura and Rawengaiti - visible from the town's two ocean beaches. The Whangamata estuary is the shallowest in the North Island. It is located at the northen end of the beach, which is long, curved and sandy.

Unfortunately there aren’t any showers or toilets on the beach, but lifeguards patrol in summer and there is reasonable parking available. Winds are best from the west to northwest and water temperatures are average. The nearby islands are interesting to explore; Hauturu can be reached by wading out at low tide and Whenuakura has a large collapsed blowhole that has formed a beach on the inside.
