one day daniel son, one day..... its just a hard justification when my local beaches aren't that falsh for buggies and to really get any use from a buggy i'd need to drive 3-5 hours, on the occasions i am at those locations its usually during business trips when i don't have enough room for a buggy in my vehicle.....

ps Al list up your beaches i know yourve been to a few yourself this year.

Re:Where have you been kiting this year? 1 year, 7 months ago #24281

Taranaki beach are great for buggying. I have had many sessions on your beaches and although it is a wet ride its always been a good ride.

indeed you can buggy the naki beaches. but the place were i see an advantage to use a buggy is in the dunes or hammering massive distances. on a short wet beach i'd rather be on my board sliding and jumping the streams, boulders etc. Zipping back and forth 50-100m stretches with cross on wind on a wet beach in a buggy doesn't appeal.

What a coincidence! I JUST posted a topic about where one can board/buggy in this region then I come and read this!

Care to pop over and comment on some locations?!

My pathetic list for this topic:

Paraparaumu: One unsuccessful static session! Still stoked to have a kite though!

Thats not my memory of buggying in the Naki. You may find the runs a bit longer when you can hold a better line.

prevailing wind is sw which is cross on back beach and almost direct cross shore at fitzroy.

north westers are best you can zip the full fitzroy and oakura without tacking. but northwesters are few and far between. a true westerly may see back beach at super low tide doing the same.

and dont worry i hold a good upwind line. perhaps the only buggiers that can upwind better than me are dudes with superwide axles flying race kites.

However all of this is moot as i'm a landboarder first and foremost and would still be even if i lived on the top of the dunes at the moose. it suits my style and complements my other sporting activities. one day a buggy will enter my kiting quiver but not for a while.

Re:Where have you been kiting this year? 1 year, 7 months ago #24298

I wasn't worried. You ride just fine. I remember feeling ashamed when you passed me on the hard at the moose meet.
We all gotta do what we gotta do I just found it odd that you would write off Taranaki as a buggy zone when I have so many fond memories of the place.

Any news on that race you were talking about?

have you made it to baileys yet north? it is magic. particularily the south head. you should work on those auckland buggiers and get them up there for a weekend at the north head (south end of bailies). come on guys. its 5 times the size of the moose and smoother more roling nicer dunes..... do it.

Charly i'm not writing off the naki as a buggy zone. all i state is that i would prefer to landboard it. but then really the only time i truely hunker for a buggy is in the dunes.

yes. i was all planned to organise the naki race but then an overseas trip popped up and that has used up all my aloted man time and then some. it will now have to be next year.

I've been at Muriwai just about every day, for the last 6 years

sorry , I'll go and get back under my shell now

Better than me.
I went to Taranaki for a kite fest but the date was advertised wrong and all I found was an empty field. Oh well Raglan ain't so bad.
Just got some new tyres and a 3m Peter Lynn Twister. best thing. I am on holiday for 2 weeks. Just need some wind.

hey Plummet - will get to the Naki when I can!! If you recall I am the kiter / mountain biker from the UK who was on the way over here seven months ago - here now, evidently! You said I should get down there with kites and bikes (if there was no wind). Will take you up on your offer when I can

Being a new JAFA I'll be getting to Muriwai as soon as I can. Shame all the wind is going to be mid-week...

Re: Where have you been kiting this year? 1 year, 7 months ago #24326

ah, zut alors et merde! My mates have just come back from Cham and Pila (one without attached collar bone). It is the first time I have missed the trip in seven years... serves them right for going without me. Chamonix is the greatest town on the planet

Have fun - there are loads more new tracks off the back of Le Tour into Vallocine where there is a new chair. Jealous? Yes. Next year? Definitely...

I went to Kawhia. I spent most of the day huddling in a tent but managed to get a race done. I seem to recall moving about in my buggy but if anybody asks I will deny it.

I did however Nuke the Moose. First time in 13 years. That was a long time between drinks but Aaron Rhoades and I had a great ride up.

Raglan and Muriwai. Thats all I will admit to.
