Right, come spring/summer I'll have a lot more time to get to the beach and I'll also have my camera and hopefully a tripod by then too.
I'm planning to make a vid that's a lot more than just us flying around to music.
Any suggestions as to what we should include?
I'm thinking a few shots of us moving from new brighton to the estuary as well as some more interesting things like messing around on the dunes and stuff.

Thinking of extra things like with zenons vid where they had no wind and are just messing about, as well as cuts/angles like in this vid here; www.extremekites.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=11227

although I'm not sure if my camera could make it look so good...

Any other ideas? this'll probably be a project through the whole of spring/summer whenever we can get out and fly

I'm up for it, not sure how much we could get filming wise any time soon, no wind lately/offshore in CHCH leaves very little options

Can we put some crashes in because most the vids on you tube edit them out and i think bit of carnage won't hurt well not to much i hope. Thats if we catch it on film in the thew corse of filming thats is.

Of course we will, and I guarantee we'll get a bunch of bails on tape, I've got the mechanics down for switching to blind and handle passing, but I've yet to have a decent go at it to really try, so you have that to look forward to.

Gonna be trying to get to hallswell domain on semi-decent days, nice big open fields there for when the wind is off-shore anyways

edit; I want stuff of at least this caliber;

Thats no great crash, i know you hit hard but didnt look that impressive.. compared to stuff ive done in the past we will top that easy!!

Mechanics for landing blind and handel passes are all sweet but putting into practice with a kite is the hard bit. I can handel pass on my bar hung from a tree everytime but transferring that to the kite will be interesting. And landing blind i still havent nailed yet, but i do have griptape on my landboard now so that should make things a bit easier. Martin this summer is going to be awesome. But its going to be hard to decide what and where to ride, beach or estuary, water or land... im torn.

since you blokes have less kids and more spare time you/we should arrainge a road trip up to foxton during the spring/summer. it would make for the most epic kgb session in nz history (presuming good wind).

ooh yeah i can see it now the north/south shake down.

a battle to the death.... or till someone falls over laughing too hard.

I meant just for giggles, not the harshness of the bail!

Also, we're moving to lyttelton this week, so I'll be closer to the beach and estury.

And yes putting it into practice will be the challenge, but I got the kite late this year, and work was so shitty I never had time to go fly. Now I'm teaching I'll have a good amoutn of time in the evenings to fly!

wotcha, after lambing seasson, ends october i think, i'm gonna start trying out mt herbert and the surrounding lands. if your up for coming over then you'll get some very sick locations for filming, not just the same old beech or park.

so far i've found a fair few spots, and because of being on the exposed side of the mountain they tend to work in all directions. biggest problem at the moment is paddock fencing. but i've got a plan to bipass that.

also i'd be well up for a real long ride along the coastline sometime, a bit like 90mile, but somewhere on the south island. is there anywhere?

hope to make it over to brighton soon for a hoon and a catch up with all you nutters

That sounds cool, I'd love to try some hill riding, see how it compares.
Let me know any extra details, I now live in Lyttelton, so what's the best way there etc?

Managed to get out on the beach this afternoon, switched my ion to 5-lines and found it to fly pretty awesome even in the really light winds we had, messed around with some 180 to blinds and stuff, hope to replicate with more wind.

Will begin taking camera out when kiting now

Hey, I been wondering just where the airstrip is.
Never done proper down hill, and not too sure I'd be all that good at it, maybe if I took a kite up there something might happen.

I'd be up for a try though, and will film/take pics if nothing else.

Just need to know how to get there

in the same vehicle that mikey and i travel in.... normally we rock together to save on fuel.... Considering the fact that the weather is getting better in keen for a ride day at some point... just got to get everyone on the same page. missed the last ride day due to snowkiting the day mike went over.....

Martin, you have your own cell number yet or can i still get you on the one you shared over summer.... if you have a new one PM it to me.

Just got back from a REALLY light wind fly, only about 40 minutes or so, not enough to even get moving on the board, but I"m really digging how much extra power I'm getting from the kite with 5th line, super quick through the air too.

Living that little bit closer to the beach will do wonders for the amount of time I can dedicate to flying this year

Not really, that which I bought in dec/jan just gone will pretty much be my stuff for the new season.

Had a shitty job in beginning of the year to get through to the course I did and that kept me off the beach when the best wind was on (and I had a dream I went back there last night )

So with the very few sessions the ion3 and the board got I'll consider it new for this season

If I get a lot of teaching work I may look into a smaller LEI for Emma, an 8.5 so I have a high wind kite as well.

Its also gone NE in brightn and hopefully will build this arvo and might hit the beach about 3:00pm. Low tide is about 5:00pm hopefully see the crew down there. Nate and I hit Rawhiti domain yesterday in the southerly and Mbnmac also popped along as he saw the kites also had some of the local kids flying a 3m Rebble in low winds and they loved it. so afternoon all round, not the best spot for flying as there is a some rough pockets and then smooth air in a short distance but was good the get out there.

Don't get your hopes to high caleb, the weather forecats is for it to turn southerly, though if its any good i'll hit the beach. Nate and i had a good mid week run on tues we went up to the waimak and back for the first time this season. Looks like Zenon will be all work and no play this weekend bummer!!

Good call Belac i'm sat at home with a coffee looking out the window and there is not a breath of wind at the mo, was kinda hoping the wind would pick up but doesn't look like it will today. Will have to do all those odd jobs around the place then like hedge trimming and washing the car and mountain bike.

nope, not a breth of wind up the mountain either, all cloudy and middle earthy.

emelda chose to stay in the car and sing to the confused mountain bikers as they went by.

joe, you gotta come try that track!! deffinetly a breakless possability, altho building up courage with PSI i think. i only did the top km or so as it flatens out after a while, but the top is awesome. could be one for an after worker some time this week?

Well those guys that couldn't make it down to the beach today!!! It was my first epic sess of the season here in chch with Easternly of 12-15knots if was almost 50/50 along the beach and the beach was really wide and not that many dog walkers due to the wind. I almost had the beach to myself as well with only Matt on a landboard and another buggier Graham. The highlight of was at the end with some kitesurfer in the water running in the shallow soup and an empty beach in ran just at the waters edge under the kite surfers kites doing about 60kmph duckin in and out of the water as the waves came in and out awesome fun. It was a great wind today and was a little suprised that there weren't more guys out there not even any Blokarts, and here's to many more for this summer.

I'll probably be down there after golf, I'll make sure to bring the camera.

Nate should be able to show you the best way to strop handles (although you'll want to make it shorter than he has his for guerilla arms)

i heard joe prefers hard work to kiting now so don't imagine we'll see him . but it would be good to see those sissys mason and will out getting inventive. and anybody else for that matter. theres allways a good pub across the road for afters.

no wind
none of these emocons thingys really convey the futility of off days.
i think its time to give up kiting in favour of line dancing or something.

You need to move to the city Belac there's been a couple of awesome days this week. Nate and I hit the beach yesterday after work and was rewarded with a couple of long runs to spencerville and back hitting speed of 60+ kmph. Though i did have my first OBE of the season at spencerville. It was the result of a quick turn to avoid Nate and i crossing kites and i was to far up the beach near the soft side and the kite was to low in the wind window and over a went and up the beach i was dragged, was a bit of a buzz after the event. Hopefully we'll get some kiting in this weekend as i was to busy last weekend working still got some work to do this weekend, though hoping to finish it tomorrow morn and get some mountain biking and buggying in.

Just a heads up after an awesome afternoon down on the beach with the peter lynn guys and a little racing. We had a visit from the ranger similar to late year asking us to go north of waimari beach and south of south brighton surf club as per the CWA guidelines. Thats all i'm going to say.

Mason and I had an absolute blast out there on Friday.. Was awesome.

hmm mr ranger again.. Keep it sensible boys.. here is what i propose we shall do.

Nobody flying through the yellow flags excessively. If you need to go through this area do it at walking pace with your kite as high as it can be..

Do not ever set up right in front of the surf club and do not set up infront of groups of people on the beach. Find a clear spot.

Its all common sense but its up to us to enforce it and keep everything safe. I for one will be making sure i do it but i also wont be exclusively flying wayy down south or wayy up north as asked by the ranger unless it is really really busy which it will be getting worse in the weekends.

See you on the beach guys!

Sounds good to me, i'll be doing the same, as i find up the north and down the south is often full of dog walkers.

Well, this week I've managed to get out 3 times already, I'm so loving living next to the beach!

Did clock myself one today coming down from a big slow 360 and got lofted a bit high and hit my head pretty hard, so glad I wear my helmet!

So I"m still trying to get some filming done, need to sort out my tapes and stuff...
