Hey All

Going over to Tonga to get away from this wet weather and plan on spending a couple days on Ha'apai Island. Is it worth taking my gear over? Been looking at the Guru and it has been saying anything from 5-->18 knots Easterly. Any specific spots on the island or around Tonga you would recommend?

Thanks so much

Chris

I was supposed to be at Matafonua lodge on Ha'apai Island 2 weeks ago which apparently has great wind for kiting all day.
Mike F went last year and got some awesome kiting in.
Work pressures meant I couldn't go this year, but for sure take your gear - and then write back and tell us all how great it was

Hey

Thanks for your reply, what a bugger you couldnt go to Tonga because of work!. I am going to be saying at Matafonua Lodge for a couple days. Alright, arm has been twisted, the kiting gear is getting packed in. Will post some pictures if I get on the water. Fingers crossed!

heh its mike. Haapai is great. Sally and Dave will look after you. You can kite straight from Matafonua I drift launched into the channel and from the lodge you have a huge playground its mostly deep water but a few coral heads at low tide. You an also kite at the causeway best on a high tide. At the other end of the island from Matafonua you can walk across the coral to a deserted island with great sandy beach thats good fun. Take bigger kites as with the humidity and heat whats seems high wind isnt as dense. There is kiwi beer and wine good price so wouldnt take any. The local currency for Dave and sally is fishing magazines womans mags and pineaplle lumps. If you take a memory stick dave has great camera and will take pics for you. Give us a ring if you wnat to know more 021995682

Hey Guys

Looks like kiting in Tonga is out of the question now. Got in a bicycle accident on Monday and broke my radial head in my right arm. Looking at the forecast as well, would of been amazing! Drinking a cold beer under a coconut tree may be the only thing I am doing next week.
