Slingshot RPM

RPM Header

Despite the fact the model is in its fourth version, Slingshot’s 2012 RPM kite still has the endorsement of world champion kitesurfer Youri Zoon. It is supposed to be suitable for buggying, landboarding, snowkiting and kiteboarding, but it really stands out as a freestyle product. As Youri says, it’s "still pretty much an overall kite but does its work for freestyle."

Different angles

Few changes have been made from the 2011 version. The 2012 RPM retains the open “C” canopy and Slingshot’s patented Split Strut technology, features that make for stable and smooth performance, especially when kiting unhooked. Although it flutters when significantly depowered, the kite tends not to depower in the first place and sits in the centre of the wind window. The RPM provides excellent hangtime and the range of available sizes allow it to cover a respectable wind range.

Wind range

The only noticeable modifications from the previous model are a shift in wingtip attachment points and refining of the suspension bridle, design aspects that aim to optimise the kite’s performance and improve the kite’s versatility. And the RPM does fly well in a variety of conditions, making for smooth, fast turns and easy relaunching.

So although you may not reach PKRA World Champion status, the 2012 Slingshot RPM is a solid kite. It has a direct, predictable feel and is simple to use regardless of your style or skill level.
