Today I went for a drive to see if I could find somewhere close to Dunedin to Snowkite.
Drove up to Clarks Junction from Mosigel and turned onto Old Dunstan Road. According to Google Earth this road climbs over the rock and pillars, with flatish areas on top.

Got a little way along the road but came to 'Road Closed' sign and a padlock

Has anyone ever tried to get access up here?

yep been up to that gate before, phil wanted to make some ramps to get the quad bike over the gate... but then he is a loon. we looked at the te papanui conservation area, take the last left by the sign before that gate.. just need a good low snowfall. that gate you photo'd gets shut at queens birthday i think. phil made enquiries about getting a key from the dcc but they said no way, and the farmer isn't keen for people to be up there in the mud either. would be a great spot otherwise!

this is mason on my kite on the old man range, can be a long walk though!
