Pretty sure this is not just me.....

Im getting errors when i look at mine and others profiles and pages not loading, showing errors. Also the site just seems to run really slow...like being back on dial-up.

Really like the site but its a real pain in the arse to use at the moment. Is this just me?

Cheers.

Must be your windows or internet setup, mate.

Works great on my PC and laptop.

Ditto.... pretty much given up on using the site at all now. (sorry guys but the old forum seemed to work much much better)

I tried to give feedback, but gave up after 40 minute of trying to find the suggested community section, when i did finally find it, it just spat the dummy

Hi All

Uuummm interesting topic. Yes, the site will probably be faster outside NZ for sure. This website is hosted in the US for now and has been performing adequately. We are looking at moving again to improve speed, however if the slow connection is at the users end, then this technology will always perform poorly.

You need to be on a broadband connection to use... streaming video's etc all require plenty of bandwidth and while the old site was quicker, it was certainly lacking in community building features.

My suggestions... use the site at work where the company pays for the all the bandwidth to stream the YouTube videos into your office. Ensure you have the latest browsers installed.

I tried to give feedback, but gave up after 40 minute of trying to find the suggested community section, when i did finally find it, it just spat the dummy

Would also like to know where on the site you were sskitehoneybunny and what the error message was.

P.S
I can appreciate that there are probably a number of features in the site that are unfamiliar with users. I will post up some training videos on my return from Wanakite for you all to start exploring the new gadets.

Always wanting feedback on the site and I appreciate the honesty in this topic.

Thanks for coming back to us on this.

I work in IT and i know that 9 times out of 10 these things tend to be probs at the users end! But i am on a decent broadband connection and have no issues streaming video etc from any other site, and i dont remember having any probs with this site until relatively recently (since it changed over). I have been on here several years. The slow problems i have are just loading regular pages, posting comments, looking at profiles (mine and others), no vids or anything fancy. I dont think its got anything to do with profiles as i get problems when im not logged in as well. Im not moaning...just trying to give you a bit more info!

I wouldnt rule out the possibility thats its something my end, but i would be willing to put a few $$$'s on it that its not!

Cheers,

Speed isnt my issue, certain commands:
-PM
-Looking profiles
-Searching

I get "Operation aborted". I then have to go back a page and refresh to veiw.

my issues ar similar to kitesurf nelson... also difficulty just logging in, just took 5 attempts right now! and pages never load properly, or abort halfway through.

It was trying to join a group on the comunities page, it just aborted. I can't remember exactly what came up, i'll make a note of it next time! (hopefully there is no next time)

I have a reasonably fast broadband connection and have no issues with any other webpages or forums I browse, so I don't believe it is just the end users.

Seems a shame to hear that an NZ forum for a relatively small community of people is slow for users in NZ, but ok if you are overseas. We are in NZ!!!

I'm not sure who host the Vorb forum, but that seems to work pretty well in NZ.

Hopefully, things come right!

yeah it took me several tries to even find the group on the communities page..

i find the speed is pretty good both here at work on our nice fast connection and at home on my flakey-ish dsl

but i get this error as attached when going into communities both from here and at home.

both computers running ie7 on vista

Other than prefering the adds on the side I also get the odd failed load or bugs in the forum framework. Have to hit refresh a few times to get it to load, or give up and start a new session. This is both work and at home using both explorer and firefox.

hmmm it works fine at home on ff 3.5.2.

works on ie8 at home, apart from the error below coming up at the bottom when u click on "Done but with errors on page"

i think it used to crash here at home when i had ie7 on it same as at work..

i'll upgrade to ie8 at work and see if that sorts it.

also I still don't get reply notifications by email... i'll check my address in my profile..

I have been having ongoing problems trying to view the website.

It would load first page then basicly stop loading whenever i try to load a topic.

I was messing around in my adsl modem settings and seen that the firewall was turned on.

Since turning off the modem firewall I can now access all the website and nothing has stopped since, hence why I can make this post now.

Why is that this is the only website my modem would block out?

[Hi All

I have been getting great feedback from you all this year on how you are finding the new site and the extra features. One recurring comment has been the website speed which was noted early on and has been under way. Like all of those that run a website, or are involved in its maintenance, you will appreciate the planning and effort that is involved in any major changes.

The good news is that I have been busy getting a brand new server for kiteforum.co.nz prepared which will dramatically improve the sites performance and reliability. :)

Launch date for the new server will be early Jan 2010. Behind the scenes I have also been doing some speed testing with a brand new theme for the site which will also improve the speed and functionality of some areas of the Kite Sports community.

The Kite Forum thanks it readers and contributors for all there efforts and patience while we fine tune the last of the challenges from the site.

Any suggestions and comments welcomed.

Thanks
