I'm a novice looking for some recommendations for safety gear while using a buggy. I've already broken my collar bone once while mountain boarding so I just want to be a bit on the safe side.

Hi OoKiE,

I use a buggy and normally carry with me a bike helmet as this is all that i have and even though the sand is soft at the beach it is entirely unforgiving. any type of helmet is a good idea as u never quite know when u will come out especially when u are learning.

A bike helmet is better than no helmet....!!

I'm not sure how much protection you get around the ears and back of the head with a bike helment, I know I have a tendency to hit the back of my head when I fall off the landboard.

Sure the bike helmet aint that good but it does the trick and in the buggy i dont often fall out backwards so the risk of hitting the back of your head isnt as big.

having said that when i get some money i WILL DEFINITLY be investing in proper kite helmet as i feel it is worth it.

Hope that helps.

PS southie a decent crash will come at some point. i can almost guarrantee that.

Helmets are a must dude.

Try get a full one. Skate helmets are usually pretty good, they offer protection around the back of the head.

Helmets are cheap insurance, never leave home without one!

elbow and knee pads arnt as crucial and i havent seen anyone on the beach around chch with them so i suppose that u could use them if you were paranoid but i havent felt the need for them and ive only just started buggying bout 2months ago so its noty like im really good yet.

bascilly its up to u but get a helmet.

I agree with ZenoN, in fact my knee pads stay in my backpack most days.

If I'm trying out a new move where falling is a possibility or if I do a spot of downhill mountainboarding then I put them on, otherwise I ride with just a helmet...

I beg to differ...Take a look at the flexifoil website there is a page that has downloads with videos on it. Take a look at Gravity Renegades or take a look at this video.

(just open and save) http://www.treborsnave.com/video/secondlaw.wmv

And you tell me if he wears a helmet.

They are the most inportant piece of equip.

Ive now got a new one well ive had it a little while but its a full face helmet so im safe now.
