Here is your opportunity for one last blast before winter sets in at the inaugural Landboarding NZ Ltd "Waikuku Kite Camp" on weekend of 5th & 6th May.

This informal non-competitive gathering is open to all kite sports enthusiasts, (yes, even Kitesurfers), who have an interest in building the scene, meeting up with kiters with similar interests, learning a few tips and maybe even having a laugh.

Accomodation will be in shared cabins at the Waikuku Motor Camp, (limited places avaialable, first come first serveed), 33kms North of Christchurch, with direct access to an awesome stretch of beach. For more information and directions go to http://www.landboarding.co.nz/Events001.html

So before you put your kite/board/buggy away for the winter, come down, meet up and be part of this Fun event.

I'm reeling in a few more....

I am hoping that some of the kiting newbies I've been teaching will attend, (Howard & Robin). Plus some of the mountainboarders may be available now, (Dirt Daddy). I will do a big push over the coming week and see if we can get at least 12 to fill the cabins.

Cabins are available for the Friday & Saturday Nights, and the cost will beonly $12 per night for a bed/bunk, (bring your own bedding) or you can get a tent pitch if you are brave enough, and they will probably cost more...!!

BTW... does anyone have a video camera we can use for the weekend...?

Also I have a prototype inline board coming down for demo at Waikuku... could be interesting...

I'll try and think of some more goodies....

All ideas welcome...

Have you booked up the cabins Spig?

Do we just need to show up for a cabin, or should we book ourselves?

Also, about the "bedding" I guess just bring a sleeping bag right?

Looking forward to it, hoping for some sweet wind.

Okay, last couple of days before this weekends Kite Camp at Waikuku, so I thought I would just put a shout out for anyone else that wanted to come along.

Firstly, here is a link for a new map of where the camp site is located as the other Map Server seems to have gone off line: - www.zoomin.co.nz/nz/waimakariri/waikuku+...-waikuku+motor+camp/

The plan of action is as follows: -

4:00pm 7:00pm Friday evening kite session on the beach. Park up at the surf club and hit the beach
7:00pm onwards Head to the cabins, get some food, talk some kite sh*t, and maybe have a beer..?
Sat morning Chill out, maybe do some downhill, maybe not
2:00pm -7:00pm Afternoon kiting session
7:00pm onwards - Get some food, talk some more kite sh*t, and finish off the beer..?
Sunday Chill out and head for home, nursing either your bruises or your hangover

Things to remember: -
    - Bring your own bedding, (sleeping bag, blanky, four poster) - Bring your own food for incidental consumption - Bring your kite gear - Bring your sense of humour

Other Stuff: -
    - I will be paying for the cabins in advance, so any $12 contribution for cabins should be paid directly to me during the weekend. - There are cooking facilities at the campsite for breakfast, and lunch - There is a fish & chip shop within easy walking distance of the campsite, but it may close early evening - You might want to bring a torch for some night flying as it will get dark pretty quick!

Weather forecast for the weekend is a bit variable. The best wind direction for Waikuku is East/South East and both Friday & Saturday are looking reasonable for direction. Wind speed is currently forecast in the 5-15 knot range which should work out okay. The wind can be a bit fickle at this time of year and the recent lack of wind has been a pain in the arse. In my experience Waikuku tends to get stronger winds than the forecast, but we will just have to wait and see? If the wind is coming in from a different direction, we can always jump in the cars and head either north or south to find the best wind.

Obviously I will be out there even if there is only a gnats fart of breeze

Thanks for your support, and lets hope for a good un.

well wasnt much wind at all but managed to have fun downhill dune buggying and trying to master the safari which resulted in a head on crash with a picnic table.

good times

Thanks to everyone that showed up for the weekend Kite Camp at Waikuku, it just goes to show that even without the right wind you can still have a heap of fun, and that getting together to swap ideas & advice is a great way to build our sport.

My highlights include watching Blizzard flying his homemade 6 meter kite at midnight against a backdrop of the whole milky way, bonfire and beer on the beach, and of course Symptom mastering the Surfari until being attacked by the stealth picnic table!! (I have not laughed so hard for ages)

Ill update my blog later this week

Still a good weekend, definitely going again.

And as for that 6m... took it out today in 13 knots +. Towed four of us.

Thats like 255kg, spread out over the two buggies!!! Then it lofted me out of the buggy, got a little bit of a sore head now

Plus a good session of night flying with Symptom made up for the lack of wind in the weekend. Cruising under the 8m nasawing with a bright moon was just purely awesome.

I think I'm becoming addicted to night flying.

As for me, the highlight was when that Maori fella made the bloody aussie shut up. It's not like I've got anything against aussies, it's just the loud mouthed ones that annoy me:D

Cheers to Spig for organising it, wicked weekend.

Hey Mason...

THe Surfari is a brand new development and only a few have been sold worldwide.... So the chances of a secondhand one are almost non-exsistant...!!

Have you looked at the Surfari web page, (www.surfari.co.nz), and seen how much they retail for...? If that doesn't put you off, send me a PM and I'll hook you up with a deal....
