if u think u might be going to try kitesurfing then u should get an arc but if not then an open celled bridled foil is going to be easier to launch and land.

something like a peter lynn pepper is for instance. much much cheaper too. and they are nearly as stable as an arc as well...

but if you're going into the water then an arc will be fine for buggying too...

thanks for that that helps me i was just a little confussed but that definitly helps. the other thing i want to know is what size kite for all round winds cause i now that the size of an arc would have to be different to that of a brideled foil.

depends on your:

weight
experience
how easily u get scared, etc

but probably a 13m arc (guerilla 1 or 2 or venom 1 or 2) or 12m vortex
for bridled kites maybe a 5.5 pepper

but it depends a bit on the rider...

At 50 kgs, I would not recommend any fixed bridle kite of over 4m for the average winds we see on the beach in CHCH I would guess that youll get plenty of pull from a 4.0m kite in 10 knots to have you up to 50kph in no time at all

Ive not seen anyone using an ARC with a buggy, but I am sure that it can be done. You might want to contact someone at www.kitebuggy.co.nz/, they might be able to give you some more info

I have a cheap 4.0m Rasail you can demo if you want...?

Hey man.
Im about same weight as you, Im 55kg or so and was mountain boarding also at kitesports challange on a 11m tube kite. I did get over power quite quickly when the wind picked up and at only 15ish knots or so had to go to the water(or change down size). If you are thinging of KiteSurfing as well a 11m is the perfect size for your weight and wind conditions in chch. 8)

As for a fixed bridle kite, foil whatever you wanna call it, I dont really no. Ive only ever flow Su's 7m flexifoil bullet(I think) and its a monster thing, was mountain boarding in about 8 knots!(I think)

i've never used a buggy, only mountainboards but i think u will find an arc has alot of lift for bugging, ok if you want air time  which ppl have started doing with buggys.

normaly you use a kite with a lot of pull i.e. traction kites

i have a 3.5 bullet, lots pull with not munch lift, as it was designed for buggying, where the blade will give you lift. on a cotrol bar you can't use the back lines to help turn it or slow the kite down, so handles seem to be better for the buggys

I'm 75kg and find the 3.5 bullit will fly in 5 knots and pull nice in 9-16 knot above this be careful..... and in gusty wind she kicks and fights like a mule not munch fun when ur trying to stand on a board :?

also just started using a 9m phantom, munch nicer to fly as it dose not kick at all in gust 8) is more stable and in 10knots pulls about same as the bullit unless u power it up.

but a lot harder to launch by yourself and can lift you.
9m phantom is about the same as a 5m traction kite. and you may find you cant use it above 10knots until you've been kiting a lot

so i think get a brideled foil/traction kite 2.5m maybe a good size or 3-4 m, try out as many as you can before buying too.

after all that..... talk to spiglord he's da man!!....

have to say that, it's his forum

I'd be interested in seeing how much they are from him or anyone as i am but a mere student on a budget seeking a buggy already got a 5.5m pepper thats a blast

Back in the UK buggying is huge and so I have seen (and used) every type of kite with a buggy: ram air on handles - Blades, depower rams - Frenzy, depower twin skins - Venoms, depower semi inflatable - FS Speed, even proper inflatables (not very often I admit) and the 'wierd' ones - CQuads, Revs and NPW9s (nasa wings).

But the easiest in a buggy is ramair on handles, or if you have to use a bar - use a short one. I've got a few Blades, a Frenzy and a Speed with me if you want to try any of them out on New Brighton?
