Praise be to the board mods for the creation of a dedicated KGB/Landboarding/KiteATB forum.... bout time...

Now lets use it.....

We need to get the word out about this forum and encourage all those interested in KGB to sign on up and get organised.

I know that I need all the help I can get with the basics but surely every KGB'er would benefit from some tips on riding, jumps, tricks, and stuff, not to mention equipment recommendations and even a meet up once in a while.

I know you are out there, so stop lurking and get 'pimping' this site....

"Open discussion completely dedicated to mountainboarding.."

To:
"Open discussion completely dedicated to Landboarding/KiteATB/KGB..."

Hey Southie....

No Slingshot for me....You can find me on the beach with my 5.0m Radsail Pro2, (light blue/white), generally up the North end of the beach near the Wiamari Surf Club. I have seen what looks like a BladeIII 4.9 on the beach a few times recently, but further south of where I generally hang out.... (your photo was taken south of the pier though..?)

As for helping you with jumps, I'm afraid that I am still struggling with the basics of staying on the board and powersliding, but it would be great to meet up other KGB'ers and get some tips. If the wind fills in this weekend I should be out on the beach practicing again, I keep an eye out for you...

Great to see theres actually some interest in KGB back there. When i came back last october i couldnt find feck all. My old local Himahawaii turned out to be the sweetest place to ride. Over here in the UK theres loads of Red tape bullshit and bans off beaches... its bullshit, but they have a pretty big scene over here and the beaches get real crowded.
Im flying Ozone Frenzys. We have jus got our new seasons kites and they are LUSH!. awesome machines...
Thought you would all be flying peter Lynns?

Heya Butch

I have been reading your posts & watching your Vids over at the Flexifoil forums for some time now. Glad to see a living NZ KGB 'legend' making an appearance at the forum

KGB seems to be the poor cousin to Kitesurfing over here in NZ, and I cant understand why. Here in CHCH you will see upto 30 surfers out on the 'pooey' or off the beach at the weekend, and maybe 3 KGB'ers if you are lucky. There are no 'kite bans' that I know of over here, (yet..!), and we have a good variety of wind conditions and locations all to ourselves. Can you think of a 15km long beach in the UK where you wouldn't see a KGB'er on a fine 12 knot day...??

My guess is that the cost of equipment here is far more expensive in real terms in NZ than say for the UK or USA, and thats what keeps a lot of young people out of the sport here. I would have thought that everyone would be flying Peter Lynn Kites round here, but it's surprising to see more than a handful out on a good day. I think the reason for that is that a PL Venom 19m RTF will cost NZ$2k+, which when you consider the median wage in NZ is only around NZ$35k per year, (and a lot less for some), buying a top end kite is a very large purchase. In fact it is cheaper on many occassions to buy from an overseas dealers than to go to a local dealer, and that includes paying the import duty.

So if you have a couple of your old Frenzy05's you wanna send to a good home, let me know...

Good to see you here supporting the NZ scene. Please feel free to drop in more often....

Is this where we post for buggy stuff too? As for mountainboarding... was never able to get going with a kite on one of those things but thats probably cos i was in very soft sand. Got rid of it ages ago (2002) but for the dedicated KGB landboarder/buggier guy auckland's conditions are epic.... but i just don't bother as i'm allways kiteboarding. Orewa, Shakespear Bay would all be great KGB spots with steady wind and hard sand. The place around where i live i've found to be too soft sanded... for bigger buggy tyres though this is not a problem.

There are a few guys around East Auckland who have mountainboards but they are mostly into kitesurfing and occasionally use the land based version... but not often.
eastern beach hates my guts because i did a big crap in my wetsuit whilst out there kiting 6 years ago. That's why i'm the most unpopular kiter in NZ. Beast from da east reprazent mutha f#$$%@ers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I met this guy from the UK 2day he been here a week and was rippin it up on his buggy.Im pretty sure he did a 900 on one jump.
Then theres me and my best trick i seemed to pull of was a salad legs to faceplant.lol

well gotsta go Spig.hope to see you out there 2mrw.

That would be my good mate Rob Hills. Hes just moved out there 2 weeks ago for a while. He's the godfather of British Buggy Freestyle and is a feckin Legend. Nice guy too.

Sorry Spig, I jus sold my last years kites. Maybe next year bro,

Well I got out for a flight with my 7.0m kite in 7knots for an hour or so, but that was just to test the brake line lengths. Flew well, but without my harness it was too much to fly for too long....

Fingers crossed for 10knots+ soon

Re: Woot....!! Our own KGB Forum 6 years, 7 months ago #6489

Hey Guys, I've had some wicked sessions of late at south brighton, in fact south to north, 13m slingy non stop kite under the pier on 28m lines!, even 8.5 C-quad on the 8 knot days, jumping & playing, still a great kite! Great to here your all so keen on supporting your local kite shop! Rob Hills is here for the summer teaching for us at KITESPORTS. Great guy to have on board, especially for his endeavours in all kitesports over the past 11 years, freestyle buggying being the biggy, in which he's the world leader. Craig from www.kitebuggy.co.nz who lives for the sport in Ashvegas is super stoked he's here, so the buggy club can ride with him over the summer. Talking clubs, a great way to improve your skills, be it jumping or whatever would be to join the CWA 'Canterbury Windsports Association', I'm hosting weekly club days each Saturday at South Brighton or wherever, depending on the tide, this is to help grow all kitesports within our region, & create a learning arena, where you can mix it up with others of all levels in our awesome sport, maybe make a few new friends to kite with as there are plenty of ATB riders here, they sometimes just need a kick start to get them out (I blamed MTB). Butcher, where's those Kitedecks you promised me! Never mind, last summer was easily missed! Seems like a good start to this one though, so come check out the CWA 'open day' this Saturday (sunday if wet as predicted) @ the Estuary Carpark 1-4pm.
Cheers KGB rippers! Tim 8)
PS. Got some awesome new boards turning up Monday, come check em out!

Good to see you here Tim your support to the local kiting scene is invaluable.

CWA Club days, focused on kiting, sounds like a great idea... Anything that helps bring the local scene together...

Make sure you announce your Saturday Club days here each week and give us a run down of what you are planning to do. I'm guessing we would need to join the CWA to take part in a club day..? Will there be a weekly charge..? Can we join up on the day..?

Make sure you swing on by this forum as often as possible, it will really help build the sport here in CHCH

Cheers

Last Saturday @ South Brighton was sick!!! 30 knots plus, new SS kites are outa site! Best session, since.....ever! Best kites I've ever flown (10 & 12 Octane) No kidding, it was very gooood! Unfortunately too windy to KGB, but that's why it's called Kiteboarding! Doesn't matter what your doing, it's all fun! Next Saturday the annual 'Lake Clearwater Camp',(Fri, Sat, Sun) good to here Dave & Su have made the trek down for the weekend, I'm now AMPed to test my new weapons in gusty high winds, bring it on!
Cheers, Tim 8)
