TOPIC: Orewa during a westerlie?

Orewa during a westerlie? 8 months, 2 weeks ago #27910

It's been a while since I've been out on my landboard so keen to head out this weekend. Muriwai would be the obvious choice with the wind direction but unfortunately due to the tides I would not be able to make it out there early enough.

My question is would it be worth trying to land board with westerlie winds on Orewa beach or am I just wasting me time? I was hoping that since it's such a massive beach there would be enough space to cancel out any turbulence caused by the buildings and trees?

nope there will still be heaps of turbulence. Use the rule of thumb.

Hold your thumb out at arms length side ways close one eye. if any objects are bigger than your thumb up wind they are too big.

maybe try some cross shore at stanmore bay? but it will still be crap. for westerlies head to the west coast!

I was afraid of that

Usually I would head out to Muriwai but there is no way this weekend to get there while the tide is suitable.

It's been a while since I was last out so was hoping to get in a sneaky session.. even if it was less than optimal.

Hmmm, looks like the forecast wind has died down a bit anyway for the weekend.

Bring on daylight savings. So many missed opportunities this week.

waste of time , the fields way up behind the beach would be better , nearer the newer motorway offramp road. but waste of time unless you have a brand new kite and you are super keen . This weekend is another story, finally NE winds again ...
