Hey Gannet,

This dude punched out 400km in 12hours.... Thats some good speed. Looks like a real contender for the overall title when he figures out it is indeed possible to kite through the night.

Better strap into the buggy and up the anti!

Game on brother!.....

Maybe a Blue balls 24hr? .... lets not go there.

But enthusiam is creaping up again for another attempt. I'd like to beat every other buggier in the world and kitersurfer on a landboard. So i need to double my last effort..... yikes.

I'll be working on getting my monthly quota up to 24hrs first.

see thats were you going wrong guster. heaps easier to book 1 entire day of man time than 10 consecutive smaller sessions.

Go for the one day victory or death session.

then next month give it another shot....... you know you want to.

Infact i'll lay down a challenge. Any kitersurfer, buggier, landboarder, doom wheeler that beats me on during a 24hr on the same day will get a burger fuel combo and a chocolate fish.

Not quite there yet mate. It’s a narrow window of opportunity that presents itself maybe, maybe twice a weekend that rarely exceeds 3-4hours. I’m just lucky if it coincides with any wind if not too much wind for the existing water quiver(since my land gear is under scrutiny) Given it’s the same time allocated for shed time, nothing gets anywhere fast.

That beach is perfect for a 24hour challenge though. Long, wide, flat, no tidal impact, no washed up trees or cars… the only risk is falling asleep under the monotony or getting a cramp.

PS. I don't quite feel the cold slap of your gauntlet with the offer of a burger!

hehe.... should i offer you a mackrel then? that will give you a cold slap!!! heh ahha

yes the uk guy has a sweet spot. he definatly has a location advantage as far as having a wide beach to pick a perfect angle and some still hard beach at high tide! he had to reduce down to 3/4 of a mile runs....

PS maybe you should do some night kiting sessions. I find generally when the kids the misssis doesn't mind so much if your dissapearing for a session.

mate for you I'll add a red bull and a can of creamed rice! not too many burger fuels at the moose. But if your on 3 wheels you have to beat me by 100km.... Sorry any current world record holders have to run a handicap in this challenge. . ..

ARRRRR, Red Bull and Chocolate Fish MMMMMMMMMMMM ARRRRRRRRRRR

I'm planning to do it again ,But I need every thing to be right as I'm going to do it with a Seat Harness and 3 wheels, + my target will be to go over 800 kms and going for the big one 1000kms.
I hope you can keep up

Sweet I'm there. Glutton for punishment! 1000km..... insane. But why not.
Can i do 1000km on the landboard. Not a shit show. But i'll endevour to beat all other solo 24hr buggiers in the world. So 500km will be my goal... then you will have to revisit your kitebike 24hr match my increased landboard one!

I presume the attempts will happen in the spring months with the lighter days but still a good chance of wind through the night. Need to nuke muriwai beach several times!

Better pickle that mackerel... it'll be a good rolmop by the time you next see me(or is that with herrings)

Aiming to use the evenings in the shed instead. Sooner I have good solid gear to play with the better my options for playtime.

Geez... 1000km! That's now treading on the limits of gear like bearings and welds and knots and stitching. Awesome challenge... very long time to have mackerel breath though.

Better get your bamboo core backup ready fella! Got a press to form that stubborn core yet?

most of the poms still think hardwires are to dangerous....thats also the case for climbing up ladders with out you ladder team and wheel barrow races without 3rd party insurance..should the occupent fall out and the errant wheelbarrow strike a bystander!!

what happens to kitebuggys whan you fall out of them?

plummet it wont be possible for kitebuggys to kite throught the nite without written permision from the councel and a squadron of saftey marsials all with fluro jackets and 3rd party insurance incase they try to catch the errant buggy, miss and it then hits a bystander, in the middle of the nite....on a beach...on a windy day.

probably in the rain.

long live newzealand.

only if it was an unofficial attempt....if it was official you have to wear a standard issue navy boiler suit and a pair of army boots!

I could wear my work $300 fire proof, flouro, reflective overalls! but work might get a tad annouyed with green slime stain all over them.

Now its time i think the non-24hr guys step up and do a 24hr with us!...... come on you know who you are! you don't have to go for a world recod if you don't want the pressure. But how about riding the 24hr for fun. have more breaks and sit down for a decent meal then get up and carry on riding through the night!

I reckon, My first time I just cruised it, having some big stops and I was slow on the soft sand . + it's more fun when someone else is doing it at the same time.

On that note, I'm thinking if the wind is perfect at the Blue Balls, it might be a good time to bump the K's, I might even bring my UK passport

I wont be ready for another official 24hr attempt at the blue balls. need more bearings, gps, spare board, 8 wheeler axles........

but if you do decide to give it another nudge i'll do some night kiting with you and provide support.

But ifs its 40 knots and torrential rain again..... you might be on your own for the night session.

ideally for the next 24hr i'd like wind between 16-25knots. A nice clean wind and beach without the green slime of death would be the go. of an not so damn cold during the night. warmer 24hr would make things more enjoyable.
