if you mean a peter lynn charger. that kite is excellent. on land you tend to use a smaller size kite than on water so you will be able to kite on the beach when theres only 7-8 knot, be it a bit slow.

its best to use a de-power kite for land-boarding, foils are better for leaning on and for buggys

best boards "Ground industries" "Tramper" and "MBS" (all $700-1100)

also on land ppl tend to use seat harness but wast are ok'

get a helmet and knee pads and start in low wind till you get use to the board

land boards dont side out too easily and get speed wobbles if your not pushing down against the pull of the kite.

see Butch at wind warrior for some mountain boards.

do they to an 11m charger? i thought it was 10, 12, 15... any way its fine for landboarding.

take it out in sub 15 knots to begin with as you go faster with lest wind on the land.

Once you have the technique down for sliding etc and controlling board speed yourl be able to take the landboard out in the same winds as you do kitesurfing.

yeah i go seat style for land. generally because the kite is more consistantly higher than the water the waist harness tends to kill the ribs on land.

ok that charger. i've had my 11m ozone edge out in up to 25 knots and 8m ozone light inflatable in 40+ knots on the land. but then i'm runnuing a monster custom board that holds gobs of power and been landboarding fir 5 years...

starting out sub 15 on the 11 would be sweet. then pushing up to 20 when your in the groove.

you need to decide what type of landboarding you want to do and buy a board accordingly.

for freestyle you want to look for a light skate truck style board. it'l be sweet for tricks but not much chop for speed and softer sand. for softer sand, rougher terrrain, and to go fast you want to look for a longer board with bigger wheels and channel style trucks.

ok ta thx

i think a shorter board for tricks, jumps etc and mucking around

mainly for when the wind is too light for in the water action

An your 11 your be getting airborn around 12-13 knots.

I was having a blast today on the landboard in 10-13 knots. 30 meter long jumps 6-8 foot high.... oh yeah. that was on a monster 15m foil.

If your coming from the water use your water quiver. However your kite will be overflying more stuff on the land so if you do crash it theres more chance of dammage of an inflatable. I run a depower foil quiver and lei quiver. Mainly because i started landboarding first and kitesurfing second.

But the depowerfoils are faster to launch (no pumping or connecting lines. and they generally deform around things you land them/crash them into. so more times than not your kite isn't damaged when you stuff up.

However depower foils are slower and have less depower than inflatables. you may find that hard coming from lei's.

So. buy a landboard. give it a shot.

If you had to put a price on the initial cost to get started on land-boarding, how much would it be roughly? Never done it before but have a harness from kiting and a helmet.

Cheers,

Chris

2nd hand board 200-400$
need to make sure the trucks are ok on an older board. as parts may not be available or you end spending so much, a newer board would have been cheaper.

wheels, bearings, tyres, binding, decks are inter changeable like skateboards (maybe need a driil )

kites; first kite should be about 3-3.5m which you should get something for 150-300$

a bar is better for boarding as you can fly it easier one handed (handles are better for bugging)

2nd kite go de-powered
(then sell your 3-3.5m unless you want it to buggy/teach/give to the kids)

if your already happy flying a De-powered kite get maybe a
7-9m ozone (400-1000$$ 2nd hand)
9-12m pl arc (200-800$$ 2nd hand)

then a 2nd kite 12m-21m around the same price or a bit more.

= 400$-500$ up to 4000$ (plus Helmet! )
