Hi All,

We are running a fun race meeting, this is not a western circuit points race, just a laugh.

The idea is (pending the wind) to all use a 3m Ozone method and buggy of your choice (but don’t worry if you don’t have the kite see below)

Place , Muriwai at the creek

distance max 50km in 5 or 10 km laps , min distance 10 km if there is low wind.

marker points , one flag south of the road access point on the beach, and the other 4 or 9 km north of the CREEK, yup the race will have a creek crossing in it.

Oh, the fun bit . because of the short notice it will not be fancy dress this time,( unless you have a dress that you would like to were)

and for any land boarders / green doom wheel riders and the odd kite biker

they can use a 10 or 11m ozone depower foil.

Kitezone Ltd will provide the kites and cold beers for the winners and
a 1m IMP for first, a Tee shirt for second and a beanie for third. + a Tee shirt for the best fancy dress

the first dates set are;

26 of feb, low tide at 11am

or

27 Feb low tide at 12.20pm

start time to be set on Thursday next week

Please book your seat now

Re: Muriwai Method Madness 1 year, 3 months ago #26753

remeber to write down the results.

Al is the Auckland Steward and will be collating points. At the end of the year there will be an Auckland social racing points champs.

Good to hear these things are happening.

Good luck with the wind. Race hard.

looks intresting gannet,

have been wondering if we could ever run a race like this... but almost all the kites we have are different....i think the only identical kites are infact the N-gens,got 4 2.2z between me an perrin and mine an gerbilmasters sparkling 3.5 and maby a couple of 6m yaks..uceless for set kite racing.

will be very intresting..

charlie, have my notebook and 3 pens on stanby....but no magaphone...all iv got is cardboard tube and im not taking it out in public.

cool, Wayne and I have 7 x 3m Methods + another 2 I've sold out their.

and in the depower kites , I've got 1 x 10m Access, 2 x 10m Mantas, and 2 x 11 Frenzys

so it's almost time, to start doing the wind dance song, Hmmm, how does that go again, Plumet

As we discovered in the naki nut buster, to summon the wind its all about how many goats you sacrifice. 700 was a little too many and we ended up with 50 knot gusts.

I want to see a down winder race from muriwai to the moose!! now that would get my arse up there to kick some buggy but. theres some scalps i still need on my mantle.

Sounds like it.s going to be fancy dress after all , choice.
Saturdays wind is looking the best at this stage .
I think I've found something in the prize cuboard , for the winner ,
Just remember its a fancy dress also ,so the race winner may lose to the best dress.

as this is a fun event there are no rules apart from helmet required.

Im starting a new thread to discuss making this something more regular and the minimum rules to make it fun and accessable so as not to destroy the fun facto of this race .

how about a backwards rolling start that would be silly!...

I'm all for putting kickers into the race! build a kicker on either side of the stream so dudes can hit it and clear the stream!

I saw 3 buggies hitting a kicker at the nut buster!! so it is possible.

kicker was primo, if you hit it every lap you be sure to nail the timing just to avoid landing in said creek every time!!! i vote kicker...

northernal ,you have got your race blinkers on again.

I vote kickers as well, but this race is about getting newbies to come along and give it a go with a STD buggy or Board, with out having to worry if there kite is good enough.
cause all the kite are going to be the same 3m Methods.

Back to the kickers , we'll have to leave them for the western circuit points race,
sorry

gannet i think short and sweet with maybe several races in the afetrnoon will be good for newbies. if the race is too long then very shortly a clear winner emerges or clear group of leaders and then every one else follows. apart from any big stuff ups the race is generally decided in the first 10 mins.

Even with everyone riding methods yourself, al, jimmy, perrin will streak away from the rest of the pack.

Keep it short then whne the newbies loose they wont loose by much. then they have a chance to redeam themselves in the next race. Handicaping the fastest guys with a time penalty is a good idea.

Or you could have a couple of marks . A, B, C grade marks stepped further back 50 or 100 meters so the good guys have to go further each lap.

lastly add tennis ball tag into the races.... hehehe. if you get hit you have to stop for 30 seconds!!

Teams racing, fastest teamed with slowest and turn about laps.

Re: Muriwai Method Madness 1 year, 3 months ago #26805

So would a race with a jump be a steeple chase or hurdles or BuggyX

Racing with a jump could be a great event. Maybe we could try that at the blue balls. Great video opportunity. Potential for carnage. One for the nutters.

I hear you plummet,

I was already thinking down the lines of short courses.

he main idea is to get newbies and pros to come along and have fun.
So max Method size is to be set on the day( so a newbie is not over powered) or posted earlier.
STD Method lines and handles ( Turbo Bar is allowed)
The only restrictions for the buggy is barrow wheels only.(This does not apply in NZ)
The course maybe set on the day , but a simple two flag figure 8 , with No up wind turns and flags at 500m x 10 laps (so newbies are insight )
The main thing is to keep it Fun for all.

Its goto be buggyx or boarderx Charlie.

Rules would be hit the ramp or have to do a down wind/up wind pussy line of shame!!

ps gannet we had a ball at the nut buster cranking all sorts of silly games. longest jump, tennis tag, restuarant parking. sometimes taking the focus off hardcore racing makes it fun for every one. try and afternoon of sillyness with no racing.

Pss the most fun kiting thing i have done this year is tennis ball tag. mad as a shit house rat that just drunk a can of redbull. Kites and buggies/boards everywhere! use half a dozen balls, its just insane. it does not matter what equipment you use. its a level playing feild for all.

Confirmed for Sunday 12pm meet , racing around 1pm At MURS

wind could possibly be perfect for the kite size, bring your other kites so we can still have fun if the wind drops off by too much to use a 3m

No BBQ from AL his van has too many bench seats now

Hey guys, sadly I will not be in attendance at this event due a pre standing commitment to undertake a road trip with the wifebot. Needless to say all the kites and boards are already sitting on the back seat. We will be biking, hiking and kiting around the Taupo region and beyond. I hope the wind god will be good to you and i’m messing about with a goat as I write these words to bring you clean wind. DB

results for 5 laps ssw 10knots mostly underpowerd....3m methods.

perrin = 1
al = 2
pete = 3
dan = 4
wayne = 5

this was a very good technical race, it definently made you plan ahead and as all short courses you had to be very lucky to stay out of trouble, i dont think anybody managed to get away without a tangle with someone eles..
kite flying skills are definently a bonus on a course like this but ofcourse buggy setup shone through massivley in this onekite race..and thus perrin with the midi tyres and wayne with racing slicks on sand varying from hard to soggy were polar opposites....where perrin floated over the soggy wayne would bog killing all momentum..barrows were fine but still boggy in the soft, i ended up totaly changing to wider lines on most corners to avoid any soggy energy sapping ruts..this worked pretty well but by far the best bit was close quater racing, i think you left a bit of your tyre on my buggy gannet
nothing quite like going head to head for a corner..with chucky!!!!

..kitebuggying just became a contact sport.
tennisball tag...needs to be renamed to something more upwithstanding to its awsomness..

never before have i screamed like a girl for so long and loved it so much.
the kids were awsome, perrin had all 12 balls at one point...i dont know how he did this without any of us knowing....
chucky armed with even just 5 balls but two extra ball throwing childred is more scary than 40knots.
perrin ran over his own hand, and after throwing a ball quite squarley into my face, i found this possibly the most hilarius thing to have happend all day..

revenge is indeed a b$#@H

awsome day...cheers pete...
