Yes, that first one's a classic.
Cross wind and if you look at both his direction of drift and the trees on the left you can pretty much picture where the core of the thermal is.

If he'd been using a vario it would have shown an impressive ascent rate

The power of air ...... merde

i dont think its fake atall plumbtree, the dude is standing at the bottom of a hill and may aswell be slopesoring with his kite, all that lift is mechanical lift caused by the hill and the kites right in it...skary as hell.

but cool..

Nice on Al, one of my faves (",)
Hmm, to kitesurf or to landboard? That is the question for a kite addicted junkie.

The first one is definately not a fake. Its pretty old and there is quite a few interviews with Eric Eck talking through what happened. I think he got away with some bruises and sprained ankle!
Heres one..

So soon after the tragic events in Nelson this seems a bit of an eerie thread. I think about how it might feel for those who knew and loved the deceased to read these posts. I wonder if those of us posting are consciously aware of the tragic events and how close to the bone this thread is. I guess that subconsciously we might be reminding ourselves of the potential danger that we all face when we chase the rush of the wind.

deano this thread is the result of that accident, and im very glad of it because i understand..i would not hesitate to post a thread like this even in the face of a death because it is a real wakeup call and for very good reason.....
and skary as it is the kiteloop theory is sound.....i see no reason whatso ever to dither onest, true and it appeares proven information if somehow it could help another kiter from the same fate....
this is our world and it was his aswell,
close to the bone or not it makes no sence to assume a neutral position on this and say nothing, surley any information anybody has on a topic like this is valubale to a kiter at any level and should be vocalised to help prevent the same thing again.

the fact is that our sport is capable of killing us, cold hard and true, so what?? you fly your kite and you take your chanches...you drive your car and expect to stay alive, its the same thing.

yeah i think Al is right. if we can learn from sensless tradgedies the we will all be better kiters.

I'd have to say tho. if you went higher than expected and had clear ground in front of you a safter method if you are not used to kite loops would be to park the kite at the zenith and float down, pulling the bar in before you land.

another very good point
if you hit the ground or ANY other object after being lofted NOW or the second before, is a good time to pull ur qr!

if the tension comes off your lines and the kite drops down in the window a bit ur going to go side ways quiet fast!

bit like this

moral of the story;

learn to find and pull your qr without haveing to think about it!
if you hit the ground hard and become dazed or get caught up in something on the ground its to late!

i think the bigger moral or the story 50 is read the conditions and put up the right sized kite or no kite at all.

How sad - yes I made a comment on forum about a REALLY SAD EVENT and a forum member has stated his intention to physically attack me on sight - SHOCK - anyone one who phyically attacks me be warned that I will bite back.

You clearly missed the point. To overreact so badly and then threaten violence to me (though, noticeably you didn't put your last threat on the thread, but via personal message) indicates a suspect personality. Your feelings are your responsibility - a product of your own thought processes, so to blame someone else for them is pretty feeble.
Suffice it to say that it saddens me that the forum is not a safe place for open discussion and that someone that claims to be a pivotal member of the kiting community feels that he can be abusive and prescribe violence to those whose opinion he doesn't agree with.

Johnny I see you have a history of making threats on this forum going back seven years. Your old threat to people was "when you had a teacher I had a probation officer" some of your peers tired of you seven years ago. I suggest you are the one attempting a psycho rerun. I will think twice about posting on the forum in future and it saddens me that what I consider a real positive about kiting in NZ has been turned in to such a nasty and hateful place.
You are a bully and I hate bullies - If you do ever see me understand this i am capable of defending myself both verbally and physically.

I wholly agree and I find hard that another forum member is sending me threatening messages stating that he is going to bash me. Not sure what else to do, suffer in silence?

haha - Tomorrow, Low tide (16:40) at Muriwai could work really well 16/20 knots on shore? I would have suggested the east coast but the water levels are going to be big with lots of overflow - YUK
