well i just had a rather sureal session.

Went to the beach to meet Al and later Bret and Charly. The wind did play ball and Charlie arrives and busts out his 8m c-quad. well i'm mocking him because theres no wind. its not even getting a rating on my facethometer.

none the less he manages to pull the cquad in the air and we fly it. well they fly it and i crash it. Al and Bret call it a night and i stick around flying the c-quad...

then the wind pulls up to a balmy 3-4 on shore and its all on.

Charlie jumps in the buggy and hoons off down the beach.

I rig the 15m and follow.

i'm flying right past this flag and theres times when it is dead limp not flapping at all. yet me and charlie are some how flying in this no wind..... obviously there was some wind but not enough to get a flag mooving.

The sun goes down and the wind pulls up to a hammering 3-8 knots and we cruise the beach in the darkness..... good time good times.

charlie had the edge in the 0-4 knots when the wind pulled past 5 the c-quad was overpowered.... hehehee. by that time it was pitch black and was all about not hitting the boulders and drift wood we couldn't see.

You should have seen Tim Stockman on his 12m C-quad in 1999-02 - that kite was a power house on the landboard!

I bet he still has that kite somewhere too...

Cheers

i can only try to imagine the power of a 12m c-quad. that 8m was skudding the hell out of me in 1 knot!!! or maybe it was gusting to 3?

the next morning we when out in 10-16 knots charlie had down sized to a 4m c-quad and i was still on the 15m manta. enter the age of depower.... massive wind ranges

That was one of the best sessions ever. I love riding at night with no headlamp. We rode all the way to the north end turned around and there was New Plymouth at night as a panoramic backdrop. Fantastic. Missed all the boulders but hit a stick the size of a salami and both feet bounced off the pegs. Great fun at pace with boulders down wind. 8mtr got a lot better when I let the back out.

I just got off the beach from another night session. Tacked all the way down the beach through watery sand in a shitty SSW with a 16 year old kite on some sticky taped up handles. Ended up in the dark all on my own 2kms from the car, soaking wet with a 2 line kite and no headlamp. It just doesn't get better than that. Got the big run, did some skids in front of the bowl had a nice blast by the carpark. No bruises, got to be good.
