Two of my umbres have been lucky enough to get new bits of kit for the new season. Are you getting new stuff in your stocking? If so share your joy your bro's on KF.
Hmm, to kitesurf or to landboard? That is the question for a kite addicted junkie.

Interesting question. It suggests that the only way we're going to get Kite goodies is if we buy them ourselves!(else how would we know what we are going to get).

Er I think that means no kite goodies for me this Christmas as it's going on the Petrol to get to the Naki Nut Buster

I have treated myself (out of necessity i.e a split tyre) to a new tyre for my land board - front right I will visit my favourite kite supplier (Perrin of Kiteworks.co.nz) tomorrow for some last minute shopping.

ps i got these and rode them for a month before i discovered the grannies. they are practically new. would work well at muriwai. Bigger tyres means you can ride over bigger stuff. ride softer sand and hold more power.... they also role easier too which means you can get going in lighter wind for the same kite size.

the downer more weight. if you a doing all sorts of spinning trickery then light weight is good. otherwise bigger is always better.

sweet bro, maybe Al can bring them back up with him? I agree that bigger is better - having used my Instinct 12 Metre, I actually prefer it on the land to the Frenzy, it's like powered steering vs non powered steering

so if plumbtree is santa and deano is the good little boy, then i must be rudolf??

no problem bringing stuff up deano..will see you on the beach, going to raglan for newyears if you fancy a daytrip..

yep plummet im up for a daytrip to foxton....when were you thinking?

think the bar will work very well with big foils that can handle a lot of brake input without stalling (blades/blurrs/reactors) and will also mean i can finaly get that bepower blade working properly....dont think itl have much uce on small foils exept on long missions like a 90mile where it will just be more relaxing...

if the wind is there i'll see you on the beach - otherwise, a three day psytrance party up at South Head with the lady who works at wuz's cafe. Raglan sounds good though!

My latest toy is an 11 M Ozone Edge 2, took some getting used to at 1st after C kites and foils, but now I'm loving it.
been able to hold it in 30 knots + on a 122 board...de-power is weird as I kept pushing the bar out and edging like crazy as in a C kite, just stopped...lol. Got the hang of it now and I also love it with the landboard.

Re: New Toys For a New Year 1 year, 4 months ago #26037

I got a hat with a moose on it.

Sounds gay but Christmas day we had Cudby out on the beach. That was excellent. I loaned him some kites so when the Nut buster comes around he is going to kick you all. Ha ha Ha. Sounds great until I realised my 2 favourite kites are 300kms away and I don't get them back for a month.

Long time no here Dixie. you still in palmy? What year is your edge? i could hold my 09 untrimmed in 30 knots but this 2010 bugger has alot more grunt.

and yes i'm have some sweet sessions on the edge on land. 20 odd knots on land and your hauling pretty darb quick.

Hi Dave
yeah, not been on here for eon's. I heard about that poor fella getting killed and thought this was the best place to find out what happened.
Still in Palmy, spending a lot of time at Foton, on the water and on the beach, even bought a house there,,,lol
Small crew of regulars there and of course with Butch being there, there is all ways someone to kite with.
I'm pretty much down to using 2 kites now a days. 12m Speed and the 11m Edge 2. I still pull out the 13m yarga C kite when I want a blast and to remind me of the good old days...lol.

Hey Dixie Compare the 12m speed to the edge for me if you will.
I'm keen on a 15m speed 3 for light wind antics on land and water. I have a 15m manta and wish it was water relaunchable its such a grunt machine. i geuss a 15m apeed would be similar with the added bonus of water relaunchability.

ps now you need an 8m light/ catalyst for those 25+ knot days. Had my 8m light (ex butch) on land gusting to 40 plus knots. its a gust muncher!

They are totally different animals. Speed I use for landboarding when the wind is light...works well from 10 knots to about 17-18, after that it's too powerfull. On the water 15 knots is about my minimum on a 142 board, but she comes alive at 20 knots, anything above this I change boards to a 122. above 25 knots....land it and change kites..
Speed is not a fast turner, but the hang time makes up for it as you get plenty of time to redirect.
The Edge is now my high wind kite, I was out with the boys the other week and the biggest kite up was a 9m, I had nothing else so I gingerly put it into the Sky... Butch thought I was nuts...lol. It was fine, I had a great session and never felt I was out of control. Bear in mind I'm 95kgs and was on a 122 board. I reckon it was gusting 35 knots.
I also like the Edge on the landboard, I was shocked at the windspeed I could put it up in, the de-power is awesome and she turns very fast. did take me some time to adjust to it, but after half an hour I felt at home with it.
Just a word of caution with the bigger speeds, if you fly them in marginal wind and you get holes, they hate it and you cant ride straight at them either. you can totally dismiss wave riding with them, but that is not what they are designed for anyway.
One other thing with the speeds, if you ditch them in the water, get them back up quickly, if you delay and they roll around in the wind they can invert or bow tie....if that happens.....SWIM...lol

yeah i did similar things with my 09 edge. its more of a high wind kite i recon. i was regularily flying it when otheres were on 8m kites. infact i didn't start smiling until over 20 knots.

I'll keep that in mind re the speeds. i'd love one but the reality is they very expensive even second hand and hard to come by. it might just stay a pipe dream.
