Whatever you do. Do not put 16/6.50/8 tyres on your buggy. Lots of people use them but they are crap. Absolutely not a high performance upgrade.

Where are you riding? If you need tyres for soft sand and/or dunes then the bigger the better and they are not cheap.

I know a guy who gets old ATV tyres from tyre dealers and cuts the tread off. Not always easy to find 8"

There are variety of tyres around the 18/8.50 size that seem to work well.

on sand but the rex red wheels have lots of grip and so i spend abit of time tipping out or on two wheels, hoping wider wheels side a little more

What size do you have? Are they 480/400/8. what kind of tread do they have?

400/8 i think the tread is about 100 wide, tread like on a trolley

we are all missing the fact you have a 1m axle and that is the reason for your roll overs too i think.
Roll over reasons:
1. you are sliding sideways in soft sand on barrows
2. ditto into holes in the sand
3. you are sitting broad side to the kite strings when taking off or at a stop (always turn down wind at the end of the slide so an uexpected kite loop doesnt flip you)
4. you are sitting up high in your seat, flat sand should see 50mm of clearance under your butt.

5. A 1.4m axle is very hard to flip esp if your seat is low

Yes wide rims are good but the big tyres make you ride higher in general so it undoes the benefits , except in the dunes.

i hope that helps, i have no idea if you are beginning e.g. 1 -2 years buggy riding or not but find a wide axle if you can , or make one. they are the easiest buggy item to make yourself. 1.4m wide is about rigth from tip to tip of the axle

Come over to Raglan sometime and we will go for a run. Maybe the tyres maybe something on Jimmy's list.

Basic geometry is the most important thing. If yours is a bit out it may be a simple fix.

Is that the red buggy we saw at the moose with the 6" rims

When you get yourself sorted in chch be sure to come and look us up we usually fly at North Brighton surf club if the beach isn't to busy. If its busy either go north of waimarie beach or south of south brighton surf club
