TOPIC: I actually found one

I actually found one 1 year, 6 months ago #25466

Now I know its easy to buy a barrow tyre. In Hamilton we even have a wholesaler who reluctantly sells to me at trade rates.
Trouble is I don't want some imported floppy as piece of modern cheap manufacturing on the front of my buggy. Its not that they don't work. I have a couple on the back that I bought a couple of months ago and they work fine. Thing is I want a really good tyre on the front.
I tried a 350/8 motorbike tyre once. It was great at speed but terrible in any kind of soft. I have used the cheapies and they are OK but what I want is a solid tyre. That bike wheel I had on at the moose is pretty special but I don't want it on all the time. At the moment I have a firestone barrow tyre (480/400/8) Who knew that firestone made things like that? Its great. It has ridges instead of grooves and I love the feel of it on the sand. Trouble is it is old and has perished and has ugly cracks all over it. I really should not ride it anymore as it is likely to fail at any moment. I know I ride slow but I don't want a blowout when I am sliding around the rocks. So I started looking for a new one and as you can imagine Firestone don't make barrows anymore and there were none at the dump.
On the shopping list was another great tyre. A Dunlop, again not made anymore. I used one for a few years a long time ago and it was pretty good. The dunlop's are grooved but have twice as many grooves than an el cheapo.

Today I was at the dump and there was a Dunlop. Woohoo I actually found one. It was stuck on a very rusty rim and took 4 of us to remove it. I cut myself getting it off but I now have a tyre worthy of the front wheel. Even though it is old and has paint on it it is not perished.

So sometime soon I will put it on and at the same time I will panel beat my rim and replace my bearings and I need new bearings in my head set. So as excited as I am its just made me a lot of work. Oh well I quite like working in my shed with the radio on.

If you see any of those firestone's let me know.
