TOPIC: Who is watching the 24 boys at night.

Who is watching the 24 boys at night. 1 year, 7 months ago #25298

Can somebody please make sure that they watch out for the lads doing the 24 hour run at the moose.
Last year Warren and I checked on Gannet once an hour but that was not really optimal. This year its someone else's turn. How about setting up a base camp out at the beach and keeping the kettle hot during the graveyard shift.

well. wind is looking to be poo for the weekend and good thurs/friday. so we may step it back a day and be starting thursday finish friday which will preclude most people being there i would think.

Confirmation tommorrow. Monday.

I know you hate forecasts charlie but a 20knot sw will give us the best shot at a good distance. currently thats forecast to thurs tapering out to not much wind and direction changes fri night/ sat morning.

it looks like hightide runs through the nite this time so the best sand is going to be in the actual dunes, the hightide mark gets pretty soft and thers to much driftwood...plummet have you looked into this, i could be wrong but its looks a bit iffy for you??

id be up for setting my little tent up on a hill with a view closeish to the camp and lighting a fire up their as a 24h beacon for the guys, probably take some rum

early ideas on the weather suggest its Thursday or nothing for a record attempt, other than that its looking fine. a white board has been planned to keep track of the lads , the tides will pull the lads inland for the thick hours of the evening so they will be coming to us which is helpful. Pete has suggested once every three hours and Al and I have some support on our minds already. emails began to go about on Saturday between Perrin, David Pete and Al , the thinking being Pete and Dave will support each other from the point of view of contact but that we will be wing it a little depending on the needs at the time. No wind at night = no needs. You have def done your part last year but I can see you were concerned then that something could go wrong and you still are now.

this time with 24 hour race having two starters we can watch out for each other, there will be more stops as both vehicles are hard work to drive.

I'll be parking my truck at high tide mark as base camp, which will have a generator, BBQ, table, chairs and beers for any on lookers, I may stay dry for the 24hr race

Ok here is the Predictwind forecasts. The CMC and GFS models are pretty similar at this stage (high accuracy). Based on these I would be planning on finishing sometime before 10pm on Thursday. Not sure what the wind angle is that you need? Wednesday looks like more south angle in it.

Thanks Yaker that makes for interesting reading.

The wind angle we want is sw direct onshore. ideally with wind between 15-30 knots.

The attempt will take place on the thursday or maybe even start late wednesday night? So..... Al you will be required on the Friday to build the worlds best moose burger for the half dead recovering blokes who will have just completed the worlds first and probably never to be repeated 24hr kitebike/landboard race!!
