See... I knew it would start looking like a BatBike with the Kendas on'em.

You wanna race Gannet? I have parts ready to convert a Moosetruck... BUGGAH! I'd have to clone myself to get out first. Anybody have spare room in a cloning vat?

some bad memories there guster mate?? sounds like you could have peddled your bike into one to many lampposts as a kid.

footped sliders required then eh, im sure that could be done, i have an added advantage already, i run short upward curling footpegs....
gaurenteed itl go past 45degrees...hohoho.

this is gonna be fun.

You do the math!
Kite bike + C-quad + gusty winds = experience - fun times

Then again that was like a littly PL Classic style on barrows. This monster will likely plow itself into the earth before it's stopped.

i told pete you would like it Al , i was thinking about the dirt surfer you had ages ago too. remember a balanced kite bike has a 50 50 weight split and a light rear end preferably , nothing worse than losing the front end on a cruiser bike.

they both look cool riding a bike on 5 out of 7 days for the last 22 years i must say im interested in how it goes

Al, i said to pete that you should keep the side straps tight and leave the front rear ones loose so when the bike tilts it supports you pretty well and wont let the seat slop on the ground because its supported by the tight opposite side

this kite bike is arguably the worlds best.. single sided swing arm , suspension what can you say but WOW

the dirtsurfer is a memory im thankfull for.mostly because now its just a memory.
a learning curve that one....hardest thing i ever learnen.
other that how to walk and speaking.
i was also learning how to fly kites at the time, i dont think that made it any easier.
couldnt drift a dirtsurfer, im hoping you can drift a kitebike....im wondering if its gonna bring that lovley balance thing you get with kgb.cant wait.

whoes going buggying at the weekend?

Hey, what can I say. Being a pioneer is not without its thrilling downsides. I did however get it going and it was a little exciting. You don't have to go very fast to stay up. Little less harder to balance till it's up to speed and you can surely slide its backside around. Takes a while to get used to signing as you have to lean against the downturn. Initially you're sorta riding in a similar squirrely pattern till you get the hang of it. Yeah do watch those footpegs...

Much more successful than the kgb I built from scratch in 1997. Tried to kite with it too and no footstraps, using a c-quad on an inland soccer field... I wasn't much smarter than I was capable with a welder when I was younger I guess.

" moonlight practice maybe"
No, I'm waiting for next weekend moose
and I havn't finished the leather studed saddle bags yet
northernal you may want to use a depower kite with harness
text me if you need the 4m Access or the 7m Frenzy.

I,ve been working on the new helmet, mounting the light and camera,
and it,s the last weekend with the family for 6 weeks
so no kiting this weekend for me.

as for bike racing that will be so cool
but I think it's a bit late for me to get good enough so I can do it with out a helmet and grow my hair long again
I don't think ear hair counts

Nah, shave it all off. Grow the handlebar mo' and get a potty lid with a chrome spike on top! Yeah, depower will be better as you lean against the power you tend to steer away from the kite to maintain your balance. You can depower a little on the downturn to keep it straight.

Worried I may have severely influenced Al just now. Either that or Santa is going to put the reindeer on steroids this year to cope with carrying all the cast iron Al now wants!

buggy bike v landboard might make for an interesting race.

gannet. no 8 wheel granny board for me this year. funds will be low.

for the 24 i'll either have a forced stop for a couple of hours when the tide comes in or find that bit of sand that stays semi hard when the tide is in.

what about a tracked board for the soft sand
or a wide belt to go over the dually wheel set up
or after towing wire mesh behind 4x4 and a little watering, maybe alot of watering, and then you have a runway

" buggy bike v landboard "
I still havn't finished the front wheel cannons yet
but went they are done, I'll be in for some racing

yeah all those ideas cost money. i'm fairly sure i can't landboard for a solid 24hrs without a break. a forced stop might be what is required anyway. i can board the dunes after its rained! maybe i just need to do a rain dance!

for now i'll complete the hub widening project and see how that goes.

buggy bike 24hr? hahaha.

hmmm....is that what dirty bikers drink? jimmy should know he has a real(pocketCOUGHrocket) motorbike....
i only ever had a honda90 i dont think it counts, id still be on pepsi.

it would be an injustice not to be drunk whils testriding these hearty steeds for the first time....i saw easy rider, thats what your supose to do....and anyway, all that time and effort needs a good cheers before you bend it.

i wont need any help falling off, i kina had it in my head it was gona be easy...its like trying to jump over a park bench for the first time, you convince yourself its totaly doable but the more you think about the more you start "shit, i shuda stuck with wheeliebins"
then i got to thinkin....what if its windy as hell, then what....its gonna be insane...ill want my buggy back....id be reachin for the speights just for the dutch courage!

heaps of info, make for some bedtime reading i think..
im intrigued by your ski idea...

i heard a story once of a guy who has his first go on a mini bike round a gocart track on polished concrete, you know the kind...huge drift palaces...well he said he was kina skared at first, as soon as the tyres let go he would back off, but a few laps into it he figoured out he could put his knee down (this is a mini bike dont forget) and soon enuff he has the gas on for the whole track drifting to his hearts content singin born to be wild..

i wanna be that guy...and i think we can do it...

if you put the skids in the right place youl just be able to lean on them for the duration of the turn and let it drift as much as it likes.

WOOOOHOOOOOOOOO

im saving points for my next raglan adventure so no moose for me. i might be turning spacers for my disc wheels, got the 3rd rim today ! 22 years of bike riding to work and racing and no beer so im not sure what the correct brand is, i cant think of any of my mates that used to drink and ride that i can ask now, funny that . i am tempted to bring the family and a camera but the tides are perfect and wrong, perfect to buggy and wrong to do a casual few hours and then disappear.

Pretty sure hard wire would be insane for learning on a kite bike, pete has a good ozone XC harness, and yes there are going to be some sore bodies after this one no matter what. Elbow pads have to be a must ! helmets go with out saying..

yes mum.
dont worry, were going to get all the bad accidents out the way first ,before we drink.

if you dont go to raglan you should come for a day trip...
its not as far as raglan from auckland, itl hardly be like leaving home atall...and you wont have to camp...
if your up for goin to raglan we should try and go to northhead sometime soon.
thers a bit of stuff on the ideas front, regarding buggy missions.. perrin an myself want to run a buggy mission up to the moose without cars, start from the campsite at muirs with all you need on your buggy and head up to the moose, totaly minimal camping and return home the next day....
we got inspired by this guy who did the same mission on a homebuilt buggy and carried all he needed...we could do it easily with what we have, this guy is a legend..
if you know who you are, come an show us how its done....

buggy to moose camp and buggy home will make for a freaken long walk when the wind changes and theres no cell phone reception.

better yet go one better and make a tent by proping up the buggies and using one of your old arcs to drape over the top.

its totaly do-able man, you know that...people say you cant....

anyway, weather radar is pretty good these days
i wouldnt not do it just because it has a chance of not working...that would make me a soft naki boy

and anyway, its been done before, and not by us..by someone with less kit than we have...hell, if the wind dies we get jimmy and the 12mGT to tow the whole lot of us home..

hehe. fighting words.
note i never said you couldn't do it.
tell you what i'll buy you a pie if you can convince jimmy to do a bare bones can of baked beans and a tent unsupported camping trip to the moose!

that in itself is a harder task than the moose'n'back.

dude that is one of your most stupidist ideas yet.that is gonna be one gormet uber pie,i saw jimmy in the morning after the mosquito incident, it wasnt a pretty sight.
some things are just best left alone....
besides, i dont think mankind in all of its wonder and resourcfullness is yet sufficiently capable of sutch things.
we have many hours of work ahead of us on that paticular problem.

yep it would take a shot gun not baked beans, sounds like a worthy plan though.

raglan is something that is planned but no idea of dates, it up to others and i have commited to be there, im just saving points so i can go when ever i need to , its top of the priorities list. a day trip is not out of the question wish i could get the ladies along with me.
