some on here forum.kitecrowd.com/ , better to meet up some time and show you.

some have a plastic clip on the seat belt and a harness to attach the kite to , that way if you flip the clip snaps and you go free with a super powered kite.. hmmm

some run a plunger style quick release that sticks up more, the more force is on it..hmmm

some run the kite works system or a hybrid with a whichard release as pictured on www.popeyethewelder.com he calls it a hotwire system.

when steve gurney went to the sahara he was not so keen on the hard wire system , until day 2 i think , then it was only hard wire for the last 19 days...

I made one with a luggage strap, a couple of ladder locks and about 40cm of 2" velcro. A standard sewing machine can handle sewing the hook and loop parts of the velcro onto each half of the belt, and the ladder locks are used to attach each half to either side of the buggy rail. Sew the ladder locks onto the ends of each strap half, then feed the strap around the rail, then back through the locks. No photos, but you get the general idea. It does pose a slight problem of not having a QR, so if you go turtle, you lie there with a buggy strapped to your back. I don't use the strap in high winds because you can't get it undone easily, and I prefer to be un-attached to the buggy at high speed. If it all turns to custard, best me and the buggy go our separate ways.

I did the fastex clip thing, but smashed it on day 1 and decided (with some prompting from the raucous laughter coming from Butch) to go the velcro route.

its not a seat belt, and you get stuck in the buggy if you crash but it takes all the load off your body compleatly and you enter a whole other dimention.
really, you do.
and iv only nearly died twice using it in 4 years.
hope its helpful.

its awful bieng so close to the moose because, you dont need to do day trips...its right their,almost...its not the driving that bothers me, its the price of gas!! but i dont mind that either solong as you go for 2 days or load the van with gas paying people.have nothing against daytrips if its cost effective....also, will be down in newplymouth soon,we should do a foxton run and go and poke butch till he comes kiting

you don't need to poke Butch very hard for him to bust out his kite..... chances are he is already on the beach kiting.

but alas i have a operation on my wrist on monday. will be in a cast for 2 months. that will slow me down heaps..... will still bust out for one arm bandit light wind sessions tho.

let me know when your down (as long as its not this weekend, im in rotorua) and at the very least we will get together for a chat. we could fire up the inflatables and give you a hoon on those.

What is the best way to attach the line that goes thru your pulley to the handles???

The strop is usually larksheaded onto the pigtails or visa versa if the handles have loops. But there are alternatives and Flexi's fancy handles you attach them with a screw in the handle.

oh yeah there are beaches south of the bombays and they are sweet. foxton is generally windier than muriwai and its harder sand probably closer to the super hard bit at the moose. definatlty worth a road trip for the jafa guys.

jimmy.
switzerland in august to be exact. and yes foxton churns. it is a very windy spot. you can tell that when you are driving to the place all the tree's are perminantly bent on an angle by the wind. infact at himatangi i learned that in 40 knots you cant piss with the wind!

northenal AL.
yes i could fly a kite in a buggy. would have to be low speed cruising. when are you in NP? and when are you planning to hit foxton. i could be keen for a day road trip depending on the date.

I also had to ask about this mysterious mk6?

You could do worse Al... between engagement, getting married and buying a house I had a 5 year sabbatical from buggying before returning on my trusty C-quads. Enjoy what little time you have before bearing fruit!

Like Plummet I'll be living vicariously, though probably from the lounge at the postnatal care. Probably won't be just the Queen having a birthday this year.

PS more like Mk1.24 now in'it?

the forks are 25 deg rake at the top with a kick back to make the swing arm sit level. I should know eh ? fish mouth is done with a rotating cylinder normally , i use the grinder and mark out the fishy, Eugene is on to the concept too. Pete is well busy for the next couple of weeks, not with buggy stuff either .

what im going to do is copy the rake i have on the bigfoots i normaly use, i extended the lead on the link before they were welded to the same lenth as the lead on the bigfoots so it should be an exact copy and handle the same. i dont want to change the geometry from whats their already ,and i cant bring the goose out of the buggy flat or ill hit the floor, so its going to have to lift just the same as it does normaly..a little different to your buggys.
i dont know what shape the goose will be yet until i make a mock up..thats all fine,
BUT
its how to attach the pegs thats got me a bit worried, i dont want wide ones so im going to attach them directly to the fork legs without any extentions at some yet to be fettled hight and maby even bring them past the fork leg and within the fork itsself, the problem is that your attaching two rounds toeather, so how do you fishmouth with an average set of tools?? i would use the grinder to remove the basic shape but whay about the edges?

whats this cylinder thing?

im thinking a steel tube with sandpaper glued to it attached to a drill?

Dude... easier than that!

For a 90degree firtup using tubes of the same size: basically make a 30degree cut from the face of the tube starting at the centreline. So you end up with a 120degree included angle point on the tube. Then all you do is a bit of touch up with a flap wheel on the inside edge and around the point to fit.

If you have time on Saturday, bring the tubes you want to fit up and I'll show you how easy it is. Heck, if there's time and it's ready to weld I'll even do that quickly... provided I have anough argon left. I was due for a refill a month ago. This inverter welder rocks!

yep 1mm cutter on the angle grinder then i used a grinding disc to follow my half circle. . A spindle with a slot and some emery tape will make a cylinder too once it begins to spin. Gene is keen to help, id take up the offer, his work shop is worth a visit, its close to what you might have in a few years Al.

Just hopefully not as messy and disorganised as mine is right now.

The cheap solution is one of these in a drillpress. Not so great for stainless as the holesaws tend to chatter more than cut since a drillpress won't go slow enough. Go slow and use cutting oil and works well enough on normal steel and alu.
Trademe tube notcher

Best is a corncob endmill matching the mating tube size in a milling machine or dedicated tube notcher. I have one of these on the cards after the linisher and tube bender project. Once I have collected all the parts I need too. You can also notch on a specialised linisher using rollers sized to match the mating tube... Though new these are even more expensive than a secondhand bridgeport. You could use a spindle sander but you would probably be there a while.
