Hi,

Ive just started out landboarding, ive currently got a 6m pepper2, but already looking for my next kite, Ive learnt I wanna goto a depowerable kite with bar next, its just what!?

ive herd PL arcs are pretty good, I just want to keep the costs semi low while im still starting out.

Can I use kiteboarding kites? what are the pros/cons of doing so.

Ideally I THINK i want a 10-12m PL charger or older

better yet - does someone have a kite they want to sell me ?

PLZ Help!

Arcs are nice and stable kites. let go of the bar and the float to the zenith. The big draw back to them is that they are a pain to solo launch in high winds. yourd want at least the 12m size. the 12m will have less low down grunt than your 6m pepper. but more foat and super massive wind range.

Also consider a depower foil. I allways recomend the ozone manta 10m for landboarding its a cranken kite. and very easy to launch and land. glide is insane and its soo easy to fly. it doesn't kill you unless your fly it fast and hard. 10m manta will have more grunt than your 6m pepper but yourl be able to hold to 25knots!!! when your experienced.

i fly old peter lynn "standard arcs" and you can pick them up for penuts on trademe.
they are uber stable and predictable, the smaller sizes handle very well concidering their age and the bigger ones do have a lot of tourque.
i love em.
but!!!
they need to be set up properly "line lenths" if they dont come with a bar.
if they dont come with a bar then youl need to set them up with something that has a good saftey system.
solo launching isnt so bad but their id definently a knack you have to learn (as is with most arc kites)

its all on here

www.chicagokitesurfing.com/arctips.html

the standard arc was the first one in production, from then on in the arc kite was improved continusly and this is reflected in the prices.

have fun.

i here you. only problem with older kites is that they are slow with less depower. you will find it harder to progress than a fruity newer one.

keep an eye on trademe you might spot an old venom or synergy for a lot less.

also look at selling your 6m pepper. you wont need it once you get into depower. you may even consider getting a 3m to use as a high wind kite and the depower for low to intermediate wind.

it would be ok. but not great. the sabre is a not quite as good ozone frenzy. they discontinued making it.

if you can find a older frenzy you will be better off.

My first depower was (and I still have) an Ozone Access XC. I would recommend this as a great first kite. They are not aggressive and lifty as kites like the Frenzy or Manta. While I have other kites now I still use the Access when I want a safe cruisy kite and I can use it in stong winds as (for a kite!) is feels very safe. I also have since added a 4m Access for those wild wind days. Great little kite.

in truth i too ahve an access.

my land quiver consists of a 10m manta and a 6m access. both sweet kites. the manta owns the wind to 25knots and 6 accesss comes out in the stupid weather 20 knots +

sweet another dude in the fold. yes 10 is the best size.

Here's my wind range for an experienced 80kg bloke.

7 knots is a tad light but you can landboard with it.
10 knots you can do 30-40kph.
12 knots you start jumping.
15 your powered but well in control. the glide is super sweet
18 knots the sweet spot for the manta 10m. BIG jumps are possible glide is insane. your going fast and your grin is Huge.
20 knot pretty freaken powered. still in control but really have to know your stuff.
25 knots super overpowered. what ever you do here is limited only to your ball size.
30 knots very silly.

Learn about the primary and secondary safeties. and practice them. aslo learn about launching at the edge of the window for higher winds.

The manta is a sweet sweet kite and its super docile until you fang the hell out of it. fly it slow and it wont punish you. fly it fast and go fast prepair for the power!

the manta will have gobs more lift than the pepper. if you zing if around the zenith in 15 knots yourl be floating.

Lastly the manta powers up HEAPS when you loop it. it goes from a docile kite to a raging monster. 15knot+ loops are VERY powerful.

Check out what is possible on the manta snow kiting.

yeah start with sensable and then work your way to silly.

go to the beach with a nice clean wind.

if you have any questions then post em up.

ps if you do take the manta snow kiting be aware that on a slope it has HELL lift and glide. my suggest of wind speeds above are for flat land. on a slope in 15 knots CRAZY lift.

Oh alright..... Wind shadow at one end of the run was the main cause - got to the end of the run and the wind died before I could turn the buggy - then suddenly gusted and off the kite went. Buggy facing one way - kite took off the other and plucked me out - up and slammed onto the hard packed sand. I did have my biggest kite up too. Details are 5 ribs, collar bone and various strains (ambulance, hosp etc!)
At least I have a bit of time to hang out here...... while I wait to get back on the water or sand (or snow !!!).
