see, iv been saying it for years, mountainbiking is a very dangerous sport....thats why i took up kitebuggying, its perfectly safe,you cant possibly hurt yourself.
wheres the photographic evidence of said jump and aformentioned broken arm???

Im dissapointed.. you could have at least told us you were kiting on your hill when a large gust came through lofting you 30 feet above the ground and the only way to get back down was to loop the manta and you hit the ground going so fast you had to sacrifice your arm to avoid a large cow standing in your way downwind....

But no, just silly mountain biking....

my radial head on one of my forearm bones is fractured if that makes any sence?
and possibly a little bone in my wrist.
no xrays or photo's. i could post a pick of me in a sling and cast but nothing graffic.

But I reckon the true story has not been told yet. The truth will come out that the Manta is a jealous mistress and sabotaged his brakes or something... You don't just fall of a bicycle do you?

thats right, bikes are usualy impossible to fall off, unless your plummet and just come up short user error is a tiny problem, normally its the trees/shrubs/rocks that move right at the last minute...lulling you into a false line then BAM skygroundskygroundskygroundstop.its a real pain in the ass.

well there is cruel irony to be told.

i was doing a jump run of 6 jumps in a row (the jumps i posted a month or so ago). if you make the first one then you make the next etc. this was jump number 3 and i had made the first 2 perfect. so there was no reason to think i would run short. infact i wouldn't have. but a rouge head wind gust hit just as i was at the highest point of the jump. causing me to stall and poleaxe into the back of the upface.

so it was the wind gods that punished me.....

Told ya... the Manta has connections and she is a cruel and jealous mistress!

dont worry plummet, i almost feel your pain...my altinators just packed up on the moosebus, so i cant go kiting/camping/moosing untill i fix it...wich could take a long long time...

Mine just came out of its cast from a similar fracture snowboarding 7 weeks ago.
When you get your cast changed after the first week, ask for a waterproof cast. Mine cost an extra $30 but it was well worth it. You can kite, bike and do pretty much anything you want in it within reason, and it can get wet and you can shower with it too!
I found the pain bearable enough after 3 weeks to start doing some rock climbing and mountain biking with it.
Not suggesting that is a good idea, but there is hope

i'm hoping to start kiting again november.

maybe sneek out for some one arm sessions before then.

Broke my wrist about 3 weeks ago - kitesurfing! - and had surgery last week. Got slammed into the beach by a gust and my inexperience ... at the start of a weeks holiday and great wind

ouch. downer for you too. your break looks worse than mine. no operation for me just a cast for the wrist and sling for the elbow.

Surgery was Tuesday last week but I'm already out of the cast

so back into kiting?..... i can't even open jam jars or cut unions up at the mo.... i'm abit screwed for a while. tho i may teach the missis how to kite while i can't. 13knots for sunday looks just right to get her flying the 6m access.

i'm gutered that i'm missing the moose. i wanted to hit some high speeds and massive distances.......... ahhhhh. theres always next year. i might have to substitue a few day trips to foxton when i'm back and running.

No I can't do much with my hand either, although I can touch type again taps and zippers seem to be a problem ... ziplock back are a no-go too

well i had a sneeky session today at the beach.

wind hauling in at a massive 6-8 knots i trolled up and down the beach a couple of times to get a kiting fix.

arm still in the cast has about a week and a half to go. elbow seems to feel better. wrist still feels weird.

I've had the splint off for two weeks, so it's been about 3 weeks since surgery ... I got about 2/3 movement back into the wrist joint but still not as much strength as before ... it IS getting better though and I'm hanging out for some kiting - I reckon I could handle a de-power - so long as I didn't fall over! - but my handle kites are out

Things I've learned - don't wear rings when kiting surfing and take your phone

yeah theres bugg all power in my wrist. i've been flying one handed (depower of course)and using 2 hands on my right side to assist my screwed hand.
forecast is for 12 knots this morning so i'll make another attaempt at mild cruising.

ps no falling off is not an option.

... I gotta say though, that for all the pain of surgery etc it's nice being able to shower without wrapping my arm up in a rubbish bag!

dammit i still have the rubbish bag. try having a shower with a rubish bag on your good arm and wash 3 screaming kids at the same time..... Madness.

but i got on the board again today cruised up and down the beach in a chilled manner. nice.

Ok scrap that - I'd take the riding over the washing any day oh wait - it was LEARNING to ride that got me into this predicament ... I'll take the being able to ride over the ... erm ... hmm ...

well im in the injured basket aswell now
i was out on friday after work and the conditions where great. everything was going good untill i didnt quiet make it all the way round on a back roll and the nose of my board dug into the water, my feet didnt come out of the straps and all my weight feel foward and bent the crap out of my ankle.it didnt help that i had to body drag about 700 metres back to shore! its now twice the size of the other one and turned blue and yellow
so now im waiting for it to heal up before i can ride again, sucks even more seeing the wind forecast for this week.
so for now im left drinking beers on the couch wishing i was out having a good time!!
oh well could be worse!!!!

bad news is its going to be another 6 weeks before it has any decent strength and mobility and another 6weeks before its back to normal.......... there goes most of summer. thats going to fry my mountainbiking.

but dammit i will still kite allbeit on a less extreme level.

it will take a while to restore the muscle , but they haven't counted on the plumb tree factor . you need to pump some iron and pack in some protein dynabee is a good tool for the fore arm, a kind of gyroball used by mx guys. id say 4 weeks of that every day with a day off every 7 you will be cranking again.

i've also discovered a wrist brace helps my strength greatly. so i'll be able to kite instantly with that on. All be it on the cruzy side until the strength is back.

maybe i need to head into the water sooner than expected... then at least if i crash in the water i wont screw my wrist....

now were do i find a spare couple of grand.?.

the brace stops the muscle building so use it if you have to, i have smashed myself far more on the water than the land, you have to be super powered on the water to make it worthwhile.

got the gyro ball. its a great help to bring the wrist back to speed.


My theory was for the water if i crashed at least my wrist would be hitting the softer water rather than the hard sand....


yep only use the brace for sports ect. but the brace is glorious. i've busted some coasting at the bmx track, loangboard skating and a short stint in howling 25 -30+ knots on the access this weekend.

The kiting was a little silly so i landed the kite are 5-10 mins.
