if you are give me advice. i'm considering such sillyness.

the main advice so far has been don't pull out halfway through. commit and hold on for the ride. aim the board downwind for a high speed landing.

So i essentially send the kite back for normal air and then rather than re-direct i pull harder on the bar sending the kite in a loop and me barrelling back in the opposite direct to which i just came?

ps yes i know kite looping on land is silly and shouldn't be attempted by average munters.....

pss butch when are going to show up and pull some of these powered moves so i can see? its really abit of victory or death trying to pull moves i haven't seen before.

yes i can watch kitesurf guys but its not quite the same as they hold more power and can lip off wave. and have a soft landing if they stuff up.

We all do kite loopies! Else how would we turn?

Oh, you mean with a kite sufficient enough in size to haul you up and downwind? I sometimes do high loops with my instinct at the apex of the jump so I don't plummet, but nothing through the powezone at the height of a jump... water is not that soft. Softer than land but sometimes just.

Start with a smaller fast kite at the end of a small jump. Learn to land heavy, point down wind and ride out your speed and kite power before bearing away. Then bigger kite, bigger wind, bigger jumps, off-axis throws etc. The rest is all preparation and commitment.

Coming from skydiving I'm familiar with the sound of thighbones snapping when a hookturn goes wrong. Much as I admire it, watching Butch and Chasta just gives me the heebiejeebies.

yes small kite..... 10 manta do? haha as thats my only option.

well sneaking out for a Lunch time kite today in nice conditions i was faggotty at just standard old jumping... maybe loops will have to wait a while. wont stop me building the knowledge to do them.

ps yes i already loop the kite on the ground but that doesn't count as a "kite loop".

Plummet.. your in the same boat i was in... No one to watch apart from videos and those on the water... Thing is watching people on the water does help..

My first kiteloops were done on land...

Im almost willing to suggest that you attempt the kiteloop unhooked first as it will help make sure your fully commited.

So trim the manta a little so it will fly comfortably unhooked and then sit the kite highish for the first few times and place both hands on one side of the bar like your holding a fishing pole.. commit yourself to the loop and just jump off the ground when the time feels right.. land with board pointing downwind and hook back in and ride away...

Doing it this way means that because of the way [img] [img] you are holding the bar you wont let go and its hard to stop the kitelooping half way so you will have the best chance of nailing it first time.

The thing i found with kiteloops was when i was hooked in it was a bit harder to actually commit to the entire loop specially when i was nervous about doing them having not seen anyone do them on land before me (apart from videos)

I have done hooked in ones as well with those just swing a normal jump but instead of redirecting wait till you have reached the top of your jump and when you are just on your return to terra firma send the kite round to complete that loop..

Personally i think your better off trying unhooked first as this way if you dont land properly and fall off you can just let go and have the kite land itself on the leash instead of having to find the quick release..

And water is alot softer than land... specially when you are doing kiteloops... the initial impact may be just as hard but being dragged along water with a powered kite is alot nicer than along the beach...

hmmm. unhooked. i'm not much of an unhooked man. infact don't know where my leash is. i understand your advice.

will ponder.

it may take me months to loop given i am not endowed with a good beach and the right conditions.

i'd still like to see it in the flesh first.

the other issue with watching the sle's loop they do such tiny helicopter like loops. manta will not be looping like that at all.... and its a very powered loop. when i loop it in light winds (say sub 10 knots) it still has a wealth of power!

Thats what the fishing pole technique helps with.

My first loops were hooked in with the ion and my problem there was i could not get it tight enough and came crashing into the ground. My suggestion is definitly get hold of a leash and do them unhooked youll be suprised at how nice it is..

When you next coming to chch?? If you do then we will go out and loop ourselves silly. haha

If im ever motioning it to your half of the country ill be sure to do the same.
