i was fangin around last night and decided to see how far i could jump.

my longest jump was 13 meters.

I'm not a jumping guru so i presume thats pretty sad.

Soo... i thought i'd issue a distance jumping challenge.

here's the rules

must be on flat landland
buggy or landboard
no kickers
you must land on the board/buggy with foward momentum without crashing.

and yes your auckland buggiers can join in too. dust of those blade and get in the air!

hmm, I tink we'll all try this next week when they're back from Nelson.

Dunno how long my longest jump is, pretty sure I've gone over 20M but couldn't tell you exacts, and that was a really windy day

Sounds like fun, altho my foils tend to take me straight up rather than along so I will have to adjust my technique....any suggestions??

Are you allowed to jump downwind in a Nor Wester? Cos i'm pretty sure I've gone over 20 metres....

Seriously, I wish I was kidding... It's not fun.

kiteloops allowed?

go in faster and re-direct the kite sooner for a lower longer air? but i'm not expert.

if your man enough for kiteloops then do it. i'm far too chicken.

the only rules are as above takeoff and land without crashing on flat land not kickers. you can go in any direction you like.

i've got to admit the manta is a bit of a gliding demon. time it right and you take off sorta like a plane and then zip along like your strapped to a flying fox.

Megaloop?

Im soo up for this. Was getting some pretty decent air while in nelson but not going along too far. But i do know that i can get some pretty long jumps with the ion with a small adjust to the way i throw the kite.

Hey Blizz, Waters not included this is a land competition i believe you would have to have your own category for the water as thats a totally different ball game. So dust off that buggy and get jumping.

look up "kiteworks" on youtube, perrin has done 30m as i paced it out after my jaw returned from the sand. im at 1m i think and a good 10m static from running along and doing a redirect and lifting my legs up , hehe. ok that doesnt count.

sweet so we have a start to the challenge
perrin 30m buggy
mbnmac 20ish unofficial board
plummet 13m board
jimmy22 1m buggy.

i'm sure you can handle more than 1m mr 22.

oooh 30m thats a long distance.

remember jumping off dunes doesn't count you need to be on the flat.

ps we can start a static challenge too if you wish.

perrins jump is on the flat and on your tube , my jump was just to se if i could, id rather jump a land board than a buggy, i have done un landed 5m jumps on the kitedeck before i became hooked on flat speed runs with the yakuzzas, mind you im looking forward to the new Vapor kite that is worth keeping an eye out for speed runs

why not do speed runs and jumps? oooh if you combined the 2 then you get some henious distance..... and henious pain if you stuff up.

ps granny tyres are the shizle for speed. i'm expecting some good speed next time i'm at the moose or foxton.

We need to have seperate categorys for each, static, board, buggy... This is the land section so water and snow arnt included...

And i reakon we need one person to verify things like pace it out. May not be possible for plummet being no mates nigel but we can take his word for it.

that requires organisation!

maybe the mighty Butch will organise some events when he comes back.

i'm far to busy with kids and work for such organisation. i like to have the idea's but hope someone else steps up to organise!.

hehe. pacing it out will be an acceptable measure of distance. Unless of course you want to aim for a world record attempt and then we will need witnesses, officials........

Crumbs... forgot about this comp today when we were out but then again we had like no wind so it was never going to be a record setting day.

Mason and be dragging all of the records south... Just you wait!

ahhh. had an awesome session yesterday. wind was pretty low 8-15 knots. but i had heaps of fun jumping streams. i always seem to get more satisfaction when i jump something. it gives my jumping purpose. dang its pretty hard timing the jump it just the right spot! to start with i was landing in the middle of the stream. but but the end of the session i was easily clearing the streams. the main stream as about 9 meters at the point i was jump and on one occasion i timed everything nice with a gust and keep on floating way past the stream! so new board distance 18m

come on buggiers. i'm sure someone can jump furher than jimmy's 1m!

board

mbnmac 20m unofficial
plummet 18m
jimmy22 5m

buggy

this is all unmeasured, just best guesses.

me...static...2m up and maby 10m long..blade 6.6..10knots
me buggy....(nobody saw it) 2.5/3m ish up id say by the way my horison got ALOT FURTHER AWAY and prob 10/15m glide who knows, i never went back... i was praying....that was my first big jump going downhill into the wind, havnt beaten it yet.....again, blade fury....6.6m bout 15knots
totaly awsome landing.

i can verify rextons 1.5/2m up and good 13m longhaul of a lip at the moose...15knots....reactor 6.4.....good landing.

Better late than never,

went down this arvo (monday 3.30pm)to the beach,
with the kids (camera crew)

carbon buggy and Ozone 7m Frenzy
what a kite
I was throwing it all over the sky
it's got good speed and turns + it can get angry if you down turn it and then pull the bar

the creek was right there, so I put it to the test for distance
and I got about 9-10 m and I was singing

doo da doo da day all the way...Oh, thats the Manta song isn't it

Oh well

What if you have long legs?, surely this is a disadvantage in the pacing section.....
I have a mate with really short legs, can i get him to pace it and then credit the jump with a few extra metres ? Long live short asses

butch i'm sure you don't meed a short dude to pace out the distance as your distance will be miles ahead of the rest of us! But lay down a distance so the rest of us can see how pissant we are.

ps maybe for you i need to supply a 7 foot talk basket ball player to pace it out..... that way the rest of us might be able to compete

No, it would have been perfect for the 10m Manta and it was in the truck.
I was just too lazy to change kites
and was having a ball with the Frenzy 7m

Can't wait to get out and jump the creek again, it was so much fun having a fixed take off point, a fixed landing point would be a little harder
my best jump I was going the other way which was more down wind and I landed in the creek and then unicycle out on the front wheel

hahaha! front uni lander.....
i was jumping and sailing along only 2 or 3 foot high with my arse being the loweset point. just before my arse it the ground i'd slam the board down whilst re-directing so i din't land on my arse.... fun.

Butch...I'm sure Rob will appreciate your recommendations as a pace man
We should pace out the jump you did on the stump session (providing we have the entire shot sequence) when you jumped my buggy..(www.flyozone.com/landkites/en/news/headlines/14556)

I'm currently recovering my 1Tb USB drive that I accidentally formatted...which holds the aforementioned photos...grrrr!

Well its time to revive this thread.

since the 15m manta has turned up the distance jumping has got bigger and bigger. today i was a bit pissed that i was only doing 20 meter glides. !!!
any way i paced one out the other day (charlie was there so he can verify).

33 meters.... oh yeah. i recon 50 meters will be on the cards in the right conditions.

ok just remember you asked... well, it was years ago at muriwai on my spankin' new 9m wipika airblast, yep it was many moons ago.
In around 30kts southerly when i was alot younger/dumber, i was in so much of a hurry to get into it i didnt notice one of my small extensions was missing off the port steering line because i'd lent that lineset to a friend.
Well i blasted out and threw it back and all hell broke lose on my sorry arse, what was supposed to be a warm up boost turned out to be the megatron kite loop to end all kite loops.
im not sure how far i travelled because i had my eyes shut but i started just by the old club house and ended way past where the new club house is now, ive never measured the distance cause im trying to erase the memory from my mind... So thanks for the reminder, back to the erasing...
there r no answers only more questions...
