Just have to share my new speed PB with you all, just did 63kmph on the buggy this arvo at on the beach here in chch. With a gusty lumpy wind of about 17knots with my new toy the 3.5m Blurr. Had the blurr AAA on the normal setting and it absolutely ripped my up and down the beach the blurr is quite a handful and not for beginner(s) or the faint hearted. It has quiet a bit of lift and just lifted me out in the corners. SO changed the AAA to let the trailing edge out and it was more the my liking, though it does make the kite a little more unstable. And try as i might to go faster it just didn't happen. Still pretty stocked with 63kph.

nice.

speed is good. lumpy winds make it hard (well it does for me on the board)

are you strapped into the buggy?

do you have the kite harnessed to the buggy? or you holding on to it? the auckland boys attached their kites to the buggies via a quick release. makes for easier kiting.

maybe make it easier to go faaaast

Not strapped in to the buggy had a bad flip last time i tried but we will see am in the process of decking out a new PL buggy, so i'll see how i get on with it. I am in a harness though its an old db harness. Might give the attaching it to the buggy system ago on the new buggy. Have to replace one of the axel bolts today i kinda bent it yesterday.

Very good to hear mr pirate.

Hardwiring the kite to the buggy as has been described is good for speed. means you can position your weight in the buggy exactly where you want it without being pulled around by the kite. also means that the kites power goes straight to the wheels to the ground.

Personally i dont do this. I much perfer to have the feeling of the kite on my body. For me its the connection that i love feeling the power. But if i was going for a flat out speed run this may be different but i perfer to muck around and jump to.

And my other concern is one i have never been put in and prob wouldnt even happen if i had to but... if the kite is hardwired to the buggy you dont have the option to dump the buggy and control the kite if something goes wrong. You can only dump the kite or both buggy and kite, depends on how its set up tho.

But its all personal choice i know william perfers his setup which connects the kite to the buggy.

Well done skypirate in your PB

now you have a need for speed.

little tricks for speed,

locked in; I run a holts block and snapshackle,if things go wrong I just slap both handles in one hand and with the ather hand grab the brake lines,as you and the buggy go into a turttle.then I pull the quick release and crual out from under the buggy. :?

I shoud say my PB is now at 84.6 km and is posted on popeyethewelder site uk,and invite all nz buggy riders to post there PB on the site.you will need a GPS photo.

my speed run ; My buggy a home build euro xx racer weight 45 kg + about 40kg of sand and 80kg of rider.grooved BF, leeding link front fork,15m line set on a 5m yak, and a lot of wind, 25 + knots.place at mooseland.

once again , well done Skypirate

thats certianly was some blistering speed from the ganet at the moose. It looked pretty impressive seeing a buggy zap along at those speeds pretty much in a perminant slide. i was fangin along passing cars and generall doing 40-50 kph downwinder runs no way i could keep up on the board. tho i did try... haha did manage to go faster than some of the less Extreme buggiers...

Thanks for the tips Gannet.

Will post the speed on Pop's website. Also been looking into lockin, had a look at Perrin's setup on his photo page. Is yours similar?

Did i mention that speed was in a standard Flexi sport buggy thats about 8years old i'm pretty pleased with it though.

Well after another awesome day here in chch 15-20knots NE we had another good few runs up to the waimak and back and i managed to up my PB again and am pretty stoaked with 69kmph however as hard a i tried for the rest of the day couldn't go any faster was hoping to break 70 but will have to settle for just shy on this occassion. This was on the PL MKII standard buggy with a 3.5m Blurr.

1.4m rear axle would help , but that is a good speed, you should be pretty happy with that. Perrin did 77 kmph on my littlefoot in a one off run (just a quick buggy swap) last weekend i tried my CougarII with leading link front and got 64kmph in 12 knots odd with a reactor , im looking fwd to seeing the reactor II at the end of our summer. Lots of people up here are considering the blurr 2.5m after a few blistering runs against yaks in a race or two. The 2.5 looks like a stable kite for Huge wind days where it can take a gust and ask for more . Pics of my setup will soon appear on popeyes web page, inc the hard wire setup.

yeha a 69er.
steaming away from my measly 55 on the board.

i'm always amused with the diffeence in kite size from buggy fixed bridle to board depower. 15-20 knots i'd be on my 10 manta..... well i'd still be on my 10m manta at 25knots....

The diff being that at anytime you get board  with your speed runs you can redirect for a nice floaty air.... try do that in a buggy with a 2.5m foil (ive tried, it dont work terribly well)

But there is something about screaming down the beach on a teeny tiny kite at incredible speeds trying to oooze every last kmph out of it you can before putting out a massive slide to turn round and do it again. but same goes for the board only with a larger kite.

yep is same on the board 55kph was pretty freakn ring puckering for me.
hitting the wet sand and aqua planing, lulls almost falling off the back of the board, sliding towards the soft sand in the gusts!

i'm to chicken to punch a massive air at that speed. with floatyness of the manta i might not land until i hit chilly....

your right powerslide at high speed is mucho fun. infact at those speeds its pretty much a constant sideways drift.

its always a highlight for me when i pass a car driving up the beach. the car/4wd is mooching along at 40-50kph i'm mosey past them waving out while plumes of sand shower every where as i drift past!

ahhhhh....... pitty my local beach is crapola for speed runs. i need to road trip down to foxton and hit some speed......

zenon wheres yoru top speed for the board yet? seems like i'm only challenging myself in the board speed department.

of course if i gun to beat some of the buggiers then thats a pretty big challenge.

I will start posting some speeds later once i get my board up and running with the vectors on it.

Im pretty sure i would have been motoring at at least 45 on sunday when richard hit his top speed. was the craziest run with the 10m ion 2 and a board running bionic trucks. Was pretty darn fast and the wheels that were wobbling like mad was kinda a scary thing to see.

I will have to steal richards GPS for a run, although now that spig is back up and boarding i may have to flog his.

They will come Plummet i promise.
