the gsx250 wheels look good, i was looking at 125cc wheels, even lighter again Grass always seems to have gusty wind, we would need a pretty big hill to get clean wind i would think

took the 6m yak and got 57kmph , even started doing floating jumps (static flying) All the kite surfers went home and there was me and Smeg from plymouth england and about 20 folks spread along the 3.5km of beach It was a "top 3" day ! Im still grinning....

No one else bothered or could attend and it left the perfect beach and day for my 6m Yak and me. I have waited a long time for a 5-10 knot wind and square on conditions.

did the photos work or did I get some thing wrong.
awesome weekend moose on sunday,
and today got to the beach at 11am wind was going off, only one kite surfer.so I did my own moose mission, in the buggy .when I got to base camp the rain came in with the wind and the B4-4.9 rocked up the new buggy to 78.1km/hr
and with a speed of about 50km/hr all the way there and home, + some play time at muriwai I got 150km travelled 4;30pm pack up.

about 30 knots i think, the wheels are hand made by us up here, the tyres are pretty std but the rims are custom made to suit our common 6304 bearings

thats a hell of a speed with wats ment to be a grunter kite.
i think its fair to say the P.F cougar euro mod is going to be a bit of a bitch for us lot to keep up with.....god only knows whats gonna happen with groves an a yak....i think its time to have a go at the record mate.......bring on the wind.

Split the hub, bored it for the larger bearing and bolted it together with a spacer? Are they just BF lite tyres then?

I'm tempted to weld up some new tri-spoke hubs for my aloy BF's to take larger bearings too. Though the 15mm stubs seem to hold up nicely. The rest is all on 1" stubs and 2" bearing and work very well.

Got kit but I also have house renovations and now baby on the way. Tend to kitesurf when I do get a chance but I'm an old hand at buggying. Missed the last Moose but attended the Blue Balls and Moose before that. One of the last C-Quad users and I think I'm up to version 11 of my home made buggy since I started in '97. Always seem to have to work on the last Sunday of the month.

I have a very nice workshop at home in Sunnynook. Lathe, milling machine, TIG welder amongst other machines. Just haven't built a new buggy in a while. Trying to make up my mind between a nice set of motorbike slicks or some BF lites.

Will PM you my contacts.

I was actually thinking of using the slicks with bikewheels on a race buggy. I've been constantly topping out at 78kph and while that my be the kite's limit I also get some intense harmonic vibration on the barrows. Hard to get more out of a kite when the wheels are bouncing and losing traction. Looking at limited suspension to absorb it but better wheels might also help. They also look the business. I know I can go faster as a gust had me up to 94kph.

Otherwise been fabbing up a trailer so I can transport my kit without all the sand in the car. Something I can lock up when I go camping, with rails on the lid so I can strap a full BF on it without disassembling. Just a little bit of work left on it.

Though there is a kitebike axle somewhere in the workshop waiting to be finished.

holy crap thats awesome ! i have recently purchased a tyre grooving tool to help us with the matter of grip, if you are running 20mm bearings i have a selection of wheels you could test and tyres of different construction that might help the harmonics. and you are probably only 10mins from my house.

i have a set of 20" bike wheels laced on to 20mm diamiter axle hubs..they are awsomley smooth (no bounce)and handle impecably but have yet to find a grooved tyre to improve side load traction....however that day i was running them @ 60psi so as not to roll the tyre an tip the buggy.
havnt done enough hours on them to be as confident as with barrows as i feel that they might cause me to highside when slowing down but i can say that i havnt had a smoother more precice ride than on them.
well done on the 90kph by the way.that puts you up in the "elite" class as far as im concerned, its fast as holy hell!!
see youat the beach.

That was just a once-of about 3 years ago that I'm still trying to repeat. I think it happened because I didn't have the wheel vibration before I got accellerated past the point where vibration builds up around 75kph. One minute I was topping 50kph then a Muriwai storm squal took over and it didn't last long before I got to a narrower part of the beach and a bit of softer sand slowed it down. For a while I even doubted the speedo though I had since had both speedo and GPS along on a ride and both show same top speeds. Still doesn't beat Perrin's +100kph...

My BF uses 15mm stubs and the Race and Freestyle uses 25mm stubs with 16" barrows but I could make another axle for 20mm stubs. Just a bit of time on the lathe. I'd have to make it so the axle centres are 2" lower to cater for the higher center on the larger wheels to drop the CoG to where the buggy was designed. Otherwise a dog-leg adapter might work on existing stubs as long as it's made strong enough. Less to build that way and I can go play with steering geometry again.

I have two other projects waiting to be finished. One is a duratorq style torsion suspension unit I built from scratch and the other a springboard style axle. I don't care much for suspension as I do for dampening to keep the wheels on the ground. Especially over the ruts on the beach. Then I can finally find out if my kite can go faster than 78kph without the assistance of gusts.

[quote="northernal321"]how did you have your blade set on the a.o.a.az gannet, was it fulley sheeted out or did you still have a bit of grunt dialed in?

a.o.a. was it the 2nd knot from the top.I like that setting.
but I was sheeting it in on the brake lines too about 65k
and at 75k I started to lose traction,so I just pointed the buggy down wind a little and went with it till I hit the soft sand of mooseland.

today I got home at 4pm, so on went the buggy and back for more.
the only mod. was I changed the front bushs in the forks to a harder set jimmy22 gave me to try
back up went the B4-4.9 (still dirty)
I got a good 1/2 hr in before sun set
and as the sun set up went the wind
I got a 68.4 km/hr with 14kms travelled
sorry if I'm starting to upset anyone
ps, don't like the hard bushs the buggy was skipping, front and rear :?

Meanwhile... I was pondering on my existence while sitting in the 6pm traffic on the Auckland harbour bridge.

Sounds like the guys had a blast at Baileys beach this weekend. So need to go for an excursion up there sometime. I hear it's just as good as the south head.

Yeah 8 of us spent the long weekend at a bach at glinks gulley.

Not a lot of wind for the first two days, but Monday made up for that. Both Su and I did the 30 odd km to the north head in the buggys - at an average of 40kph+, then the whole afternoon in the dunes. Found a nice little kicker with a steep run. Then wound it out to 64.5kph on my near standard XL buggy and a 12m Ozone Instinct Light in 15knots.

We are in the south island for the weekend of the 21-22, would otherwise have been there. Oh that and we left the Pajero in Dargaville with a cracked head, at least it got us off the beach...

a good windy day,so off to the beach for more testing
wind S 25 knots, (only 15' off running straight down the beach)time for the 3.4 yak
still running hard bushs in front end
best of 5 runs 63.1 km/hr
so in to the pits for a quick bushs change to the softer ones
best of 2 runs no wind change 65.9 km/hr
and a lot smoother ride
but I do need a bearing change as the rumble is starting to sound like a steamroller(dieselroller) :?
