Ok, we are beginning to see NE coming more frequently so i think its time we had a new chat thread. Spig can you create a new sticky for us?

Tomorrow is forecast NE and the tides are good.
I propose that if the wind does develop as it is meant to then we meet at Waimari beach up by Spigs house and go for a cruise if its light or get some cameras out and take an array of photographs and video footage if the winds are nice and a decent size.

I will update the thread tomorrow with current weather and wind conditions.

Low tide is at about 2.30ish so rideable from lunchtime.

Who else is up for a run?

arghhh! waitn for some wind! lol i took my 5m out the other day but the set up was nailed so it flew really crap, you know when you put your kite on a bar and its got those straps that adjust the tightness of the brake lines? well is there a way to get that right on the ground before it takes of and like a rocket and then when it reaches the edge of the wind window just luffs instead of staying there? robs in dubai atm so he's havn a sweet time kiting.

P.S i will try and landboard our estuary shortly after checking the area so ill let ya know how that goes

Well after a late start and some early poor Northerly wind, I managed to get my first run of the season, my bindings were all wrong and the board just didn't feel comfortable. I am way rusty after all this time...

Fortunately, around 4:30pm it started to come in a knot or 2 stronger off the water. Where 15 mins earlier I had all sorts of trouble going up wind, now I was able to sail quite easily up the beach, up past Bottle Lake forest an back. It's always great when the wind picks up and I can leave the beach with a Grin...

Good to see so many kiters out there, shame that most of them were flying statically.... Also good to see Kitesports Tim up our end of the beach for a change, showing us all how it should be done... you should hang with us more often....

Good to hear that norwester. The NE'ers are definitely beginning to come in now on a more regular basis so things are on teh up. Sunday will be a good day for riding if the wind plays as its forecast. Midday rideable tides too and then there is always tullet park to ride when the beach isnt good. plus masons and my school field which is mown nicely so that it rides really well for both buggys and boards. So when theres wind theres always somewhere to ride.

According to wind net, we have an average of 5.0knts gusts of 8 knts. And of course its NE. add to that the fact that the last time i went out having looked at that it said 7 knts but we were easilly jumping both static and landboard. So you sorta get the picture of how much i trust that site. (not much)

Rideable from 11 so i hope to be heading out about then if i think its going to be good.

Will text those that i can.

Between the shifts in the wind direction and the changes in wind speed Sunday was not as much fun as Saturday.

Saturday was great and ended using the 1.5m kite fror a laugh.

Yeah saturday waas good. managed some pretty large static jumps under the 6.5 Blade at casebrook school.

Then yesterday mason and i did go to the beach. direction was really bad. but with the gusts came some pretty big floaty jumps (static).

Only before i made the stupidest comment that i am now sort of regreting.
"Mason we should do a downwinder to brighton" now thats normally fine but i didnt have my buggy mason did. so off we went. downwinder from waimari to brighton, Mason taking from the dunes to the water me SCUDDING directly down the beach at sometimes speeds that resulted in me floating. So that was pretty fun i just have extremely sore legs but good work out. Possibly a record for longest scud. O and the jumps that i did do intentionally for the adoring public were pretty good...good 4-5m at times ending in the scud continuing down the beach.

Rest assured i will never make that comment again without a buggy. Good fun but a hard work out.

I've been getting out landboarding quite a bit of late, testing out the new Viper & Twister foils from Peter Lynn Kites.
Had a pretty wicked fathers day riding for 3.5hrs from north beach, had my young sons taking turns riding on the board with me, down to the Pier & back, they loved it. Later I ducked down to south shore, met up with some other riders then back up to Waimari beach, both times getting under the Pier without putting a foot down (first time I've ever managed that both tacts) fun jumping the outfall pipes at Waimari, wind was light but 6.8 Viper is the machine, so grunty!
Last Sat. took out the 7.7 Twister, the wind was lumpy & gusty but onshore, the guys in the water were just cruising, the 7.7m was wicked!!!
I have never jumped so high on a ATB, double lifts even, can't believe there was only two of us out, wind was 12-17 knots I guess. If there was ever a day that we needed a camera.... oh well, plenty more sessions ahead eh!
Nice one guys

Hey Tim,

Good to see you getting out on the board a bit more...maybe you should bring that buggy of yours out again too....?

Anyways. TODAY ROCKED....i got to the beach at about 5.00 meet up with kenny down at south beach wind was pretty much onshore if not slightly from the south generally messed about jumping and cruising having a ball of a time. wind speed id guess was about 15knts with gusts maybe to 20knts at times. So there were some pretty sweet jumps happening tonight!!

Then low and behold Tim arrives at the beach. so the three of us cruised and jumped around for a while before kenny headed home and as the night was getting on the darkness was setting in so i headed back under the peir to see nathan as he was packing up so a few more jumps to show him and then the lights came out and stuck into the kite so that there was some small sparks of light there and with the one i stuck on the front of the buggy was able to be seen by the two people on the beach....so now i was able to grind upwind to the peir then absolutly floor it back to waimari before doing it again. not sure of speed but at times it looked very impressive with the sand at night!

Brilliant day. only thing that would have made it better would be MORE KITERS! Cmon guys....spig i text you? where were you?

After 6:30pm I don't even look for kites out on the beach...

Anyway, the MetVu forecast for Saturday is 10-20 knots N-NE during the afternoon. Low tide is at 6:30pm, so ride time starts around 2:30pm.

With the Northerly aspect to the wind, a trip down to the South end of the beach might be worth it...

Anyone else keen...?

Spig, if the wind is up then ill be there. after work of course so send me a text if its looking good.

Ookie, I took a couple of tiny bike lights with me the blade has two dirt out vents at either end of the kite about 4 cells in so i just opened the dirt out poked em in and closed the velcro. that put them inside the kite cells and the leading edge gauze held them from flying out the front. Its not the best method as i think i will go to a fishing store and look for some fishing lights. thats what rob hills has told me to do anyway. But my method worked alright one red light and one white light just you couldnt really see the kite just two little lights floating in the sky!

The beach will be sweet for practising with the 5m all the room you need and nice and soft(ish) if you stuff up. with kite killers you should be good.

Elo Radsails arnt bad quality kites....They are just aimed at the cheaper end of the market. So actually thats not such a bad thing. The bad thing is when we start getting people in the sport that will give it a bad name.

Parking is anywhere along the road to the side of the sanddunes. if you drive to the end of rocking horse road then there is entry right onto the spit otherwise find a car park along the side of the road of a sand dune walk over to the beach and launch.

Alternativly if you want to come over to "The Kiteshop" coner of opawa and wilsons road at around 3 and you can just follow me to the beach. But as i say i will text you tomorrow and you can tell me then what you plan on doing.

direct.tesco.com/q/R.202-8035.aspx heres the buggy, i'd probley get one for a laugh.
the biggest problem atb is having with peops coming into the sport via cheap mass produced boards is that helmets don't come manditoraly with them, if you go to youtube you'll see so many hicks riding themselfs into trees and smashing themselfs head first into floors. not at all good for the sport. unfortunatly we had our first death in mountainboarding about two months ago, would be alive now if he was wearing a lid. i've allready seen alot of twaty kiters who don't know what there doing, at overpacked beeches in the uk, but maybe mass saturation of the market will bring about more kite specific areas where the public can't get cained. who knows?
i'll meet ya'll down on the beech, can't be sure when i'll get there being a weekend. see you there.

Thats ok dude. Just when you can. In my opinion you have more control on handels anyway. but then again it most likly will come down to personal preference.

Well today wasnt all that strong and SE so boarding was made a bit harder. Also the tides seemed alot later than they should have been but o well. Was a good day out and good to catch up with caleb and norwester again.

Some good jumps and once the beach opened up a bit the landboards were alright norwester doing some jumps.

Symptom......4 spins = 1440 in one jump

Tides for this weekend at New Brighton are as follows: -

Saturday Low tide - 11:55am
Sunday Low tide - 1:55pm (inc Daylight Saving)

The current wind forecast is for strong Northerlies on both days, but after last weekends forecast for strong Northerlies that actually turned out to be a 8 knot SE'er, I will wait and see.

I will post the wind direction, strength and trend in this thread around 11:am for those that might want to show up, and let you know where we are headed...

Hope to see you out there....

Well after waiting for the wind to increase from the pitiful nothing that greeted me at the beach on friday it actually became a good day.

The photographer came out and hopefully managed to get some good shots both of buggy jumping and also of static jumping which was my highlight of the day!

Me and mason both pushing to new levels with one handed invert backrolls i think....

And also my inverted deadman which was my newest trick to be completed and caught on camera.

Will post the pics up when i catch up with the photographer.

Wind is looking good today!! already NE just hope that it stays up so i can get my new LEI out of the bag and into the sky!

Spig ill send you a text later on today!

yeah im enjoying the faster turning! i only got a bar so i could eventually do some tricks and thought it would be good to get used to flying with the bar. i know that you can still do mean tricks with handles like Lewis Wilby who rocks with handles but the bar just seems way easier
