Something Different

My Kite Skates , work great on grass more forgiving than landboard.

The Warehouse used to sell these as " All Terrain Skates " . work great with a Kite , very easy to control your speed , just move your feet apart to slow down or use the brake at the back .

Looking at converting my landboard wheels to a set of off road in-line skates . www.kiteskating.com/

Do a google search for Doom Wheels. A guy over in the UK or somewhere designed some and the plans are avalible on the net. All you need is a pair of roller blades and some wheels basicly meant to be good for grass and beach.

I think according to the maker they act alot like snow skis on land as in you steer them the same way.

Thats the one... I looked at building myself a pair but at the time i didnt have the motivation. Alot like syMptom and his 3m Junkie.

But if you do build some please tell me i really want to know how they go if they are actually worth making.

Hey like the last toy....

Whats it like to ride and what sort of turning can it achieve as to me it looks like it is limited by how far you can lean.

Hi Zenon,

The centre axle is set lower in its brackets than the outer wheel axles elevating centre wheel and acts as a pivot . Leaning back on the turn raises the front wheel off the ground for sharper turns.

Also wheels have been offset slightly to windward to aid upwind ablity like the Doom Wheels set up .

The foil is a Firecrest Blizzad . I didn't know you worked FOR PL !!
You must be picking up some great kite building skills

I had a pair for a while. They're a lot harder to use than first appear. Rugby fields tend to be too rough and difficult to get going on a little kite. Most beaches too soft though the hardpacked area at low-tide worked well.

They work best with the sole of your boot at least level and preferably below the wheel axel. There used to be a company manufaturing some very decent crosscountry skates(called crosskates if I recall) like these with a dampened castored front wheel. They had the ability to carve like a snowski and brake with heal pressure. I might revisit them now I have all the machinery to build a decent set.
