Hello

I need some help in deciding were to take some kitelessons. I am from Sweden and will stay in NZ for a couple of weeks from jan. -04. Which kiteschools do you suggest?

Thanks

/Lasse

Re: Advice 8 years, 6 months ago #934

that depends on where you're going to spend your time. what region are you planning on kiting in?

I am arriving to Auckland, so that maybe a good spot? I have not made so many plans, i am open for suggestions.

I will however tour both islands in some way, and i also want to find some good skateparks(concrete). In Sweden we have only one concretepark and it is not rideable anymore, it was built in the seventies.

there are quite a few kite shops in auckland, all with some sort of teaching available. a couple of them are linked to this website on the left.

there are plenty of skate parks in auckland also, mostly used by grommets who don't even remember the seventies.

... some of them don't even remember the 80's. There's heaps of skate parks around... one not far from where I live.... then again why skate on land when you can skate on water?

mite see you around the place....

Try the guys at Kiteworks in auckland for lesson's etc .... ph akl (09) 358-0991, Perrin & Kent will see you right and have been kiteflying/surfing longer than 99% of the people you will hear from in here, so are more reliable than most out there.

Re: Advice 8 years, 6 months ago #988

years of kiteflying/surfing do not necessarily make a man more reliable than another, as numerous employers / wives / girlfriends will confirm.

it is true that the dynamic duo at kiteworks have been fooling around with kites for many a year, and embraced kiteboarding as soon as it was feasible, after they'd recovered from their injuries sustained discovering if it was feasible.

they are still hopelessly hooked themselves, and still find joy in showing others the strings - and generally larking around like yobbos who've never even entertained the idea of real jobs.

good on them i say. they have survived many a trend, some fly-by-nighting brands, an occasional drunken buggy flip onto their noodles, plus years of alcohol abuse - and i hear - a couple of good old-fashioned kite-loop whippings of late.

if they had a banner ad on this site, who knows how many swedish babes might find them?

Shaan, do i take it from your post that if the 'dynamic duo' PAID for an add on YOUR site that they might just get a little more respect (slight overtone i feel - might just be me though) from you in relation to the simple fact that they have forgotten more about kite flying & instruction than most people will ever know?
Yobbos with the worlds best non-real job's they may well be, but fair credit where fair credit is due, if i was ever to trust the instruction of kitesurfing to some-one i cared about to ANYONE other than myself, it would be to the boys at Kiteworks, as instruction is the one aera i have NEVER seen these two goof off on, light harted yes, but never anything but thorough.
And when i have seen first hand one instructor hang on to a kite in 20+ knots, let it go face down in the water, drift of and invert inside out (we are talking about a 7mtr LEI Naish here), drill him while it flew around out of control, then hand the bar to the student while he walked off and caught the kite that was sitting still inverted face down in the water bouncing all over the place ....... dam straight i'm gonna recomend she see the kiteworks crew other than risk it with some of the other cowboys out there who are trying to palm them selves off as 'instructors'!

Re: Advice 8 years, 6 months ago #997

no , they wouldn't get any more or less respect from me - they just might get some swedish action is all. admittedly it is a big 'might'.

apart from that, i didn't quite get the point about what you were rambling about.

Chick vs Bloke 8 years, 6 months ago #1014

But are you a chick or a bloke? If you're a hot chick, I think there'd be around 100 instructors ready to give you personal assistance. If not - they leave copies of the 'yellow pages' in phone booths dotted 'round Auckland.

There - someone had to say it...

hallo Lasse....

with all these lovely Auckland boys argueing over where you might want to learn to kitesurf.....may i suggest you leave the kaos of the concrete jungle and head down the coast to Tauranga/Mt Maunganui.....lots of lovely kitesurfing and instructors which swing both ways.....

and we dont care if your a-sex b-sex or no sex, just that your swedish and not from auckland......

Well said!

If you head down to Christchurch there are three schools to chose from. All with capable instructors and all the rest... But the best thing about Christchurch is the smooth winds we have all through summer... They make it Great for learning! And all the kiters down here are real friendly too!

There's also a great SkatePark here. If you make it down head to Washington Skate Park on Moorhouse Ave.

Re: Advice 8 years, 5 months ago #1026

and they have a nice pond to learn in...just dont forget your nose plug !
