.... if overseas riders were to compete in our shores they wouldn't get anywhere.

Reason being that they would choke in our conditions. It would be way too gusty for them. Whilst Clinton and Shannon were pulling some nice moves I've seen tonnes better stuff demonstrated by the likes of Broadbent and co. i'm not saying GB is any better than them but that he's so used to our horrendous conditions. i looked at Shannon kite... he was having a hard time at shakesspeare and i didn't find it that gusty compared to what i'm used to riding in... and i'm a crap kiter too as you all know.

But they were goin off in WA. So if the cream of the kiting world would dare show themselves in godzone (ie Aaron Hadlow, Rueben Lenten etc) i'm sure they would leave with their boards up their ass.
eastern beach hates my guts because i did a big crap in my wetsuit whilst out there kiting 6 years ago. That's why i'm the most unpopular kiter in NZ. Beast from da east reprazent mutha f#$$%@ers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the deadline is the end of 2007... then it's decision time. The trip across the ditch has not been ruled out. At the mo though i have no money and a move is a very inconvienient thing to do but in after 2 years of going full throttle i'll have a better handle on how things are here. My impression of Auckland has changed HEAPS since my trip to Wellington.

And from the sounds of your post kinawera it seems as though you are agreeing with me. Is that true??

i heard it straight from Shannons. He was in the beasts presence. i was delighted to speak to the man himself and he said to me that the waroo is CERTAINLY the kite from NZ. He also said that it was very difficult conditions out there... i delightly invited him back to my demonic haunts of the eastside but he wisely declined. The gatekeeper of Pine Harbour. The rancid shark carcass of the late 04 circa is watching over the beast and the ESSK.

now i leave you with a word of wisdom....

real men fly pink kites.

To be clear, I do not agree with you. Shannon Best sounds like a diplomat to me. Good for him. I agree with you in that I think that GB is a very good rider, and I take your point that some people who only ever kite in perfect conditions are limited to performing well in those conditions. I've heard people say that about some pretty famous riders and sometimes its probably true, but if you think that Auckland has a monopoly on s**t conditions then wake up! Even in my limited experience of Australia I've seen and sometimes kited in some pretty lumpy crap (although I didn't have to drive for three hours at 1kph to get to it, so maybe Auckland has got me there). Only yesterday I very nearly signed off for good as a 40knot squall came though - 14kts to 40, in about 10 seconds. No clouds no nothing! Ditcharoo! is apparently the appropriate expression in these circumstances.

And finally, a little voice from somewhere down the back of our house is laughing and saying something along the lines of :'Tell him Maui can be pretty f**cked too, but some of those guys seem to have really got the hang of it'.

I'd stay put if I were you though. No really.

oh i see......

mmmm allow me to make a few nice valid points.... neatly numbered to add emphasis.

1) Yes Maui is gusty. Back in the old days Flash austin and robby Naish came down here and did the deed at the redbull. They kite in gusty conditions so don't find it hard at all. Oh by the way Maui is gusty but consistant wind... it ain't squally like NZ, which is gusty AND fickle. If it was just gusty then Muriwai and Ihumateo Rd and Orewa would all have steady wind... and that is not the case.

2) I'm surprised that you have said that about OZ.... well actually i'm not surprised at all. i can't be bothered quoting a comment that you made in june of 2005 when you said that OZ has "LOTS BETTER CONDITIONS, MORE OFTEN TOO". so all it really comes down to is that it's another classic case of "disagree with anything mark tucker says" syndrome.

3) I wasn't actually referring solely to Shannon BEST either. Clinton Bolton wasn't massively impressive... i'm sure he kicks ass but has never had to deal with the stuff that we kite in everyday so can't be expected to rip in that stuff.

4) Auckland has a massive monopoly on crap conditions. i was laughed off the face of the earth last year for sticking up for this city. The traffic is HORRIBLE. The tides are HORRIBLE. The wind as bad as it is is not as bad as the 2 Ts. So many people now suddenly stick up for this place. Gee i wonder why? I have some medicine for your DWAMTS illness.. but with so many sufferers of this condition i will have to get more supplies in.

5) The best city to kite in NZ is wellington. i went there earlier on this year and the place desecrated Auckland. no tides, heaps of wind and about 6 other kiters. Lyall Bay was a pile of shit but i expected that. All the other spots there ROCKED. and the wind.... well not typicial Wellington styles when i was there but still a zillion times better than anything the city of traffic has to offer.

6) Yep go on and pimp your crappy loser chch and nelson and auckland to the outside world and watch tourist after tourist get pissed off because your skankholes have no wind... people were surprised that shannon best came to NZ.... first decent international rider for ages..... well no surprised as Aaron Hadlow and Rueben Lenton etc etc are not remotely interested in wasting their time here. Wind n kite interviewed Lenton a few months ago and the response was "yep Australia for sure. As for NZ, maybe" Um that means a polite statement for "not even ow. your sheep bangin hole has no wind". Lenten loved SA and loved WA... is he in NZ? Um no. and i don't hear any rumous of him coming over. then again would i wanna go to chch, nelson and auckland if i wanted wind? not even. i go straight to capital city mate but the "keep wellington free of kiters" lobby group labels the place as "small pokey beaches and gusty winds.. and bad traffic" I really had to laugh at that... the bit about the traffic nearly made me explode with uncontrollable laughter that erupted from the depths of my tortured soul.

7) I gave you guys the chance to sing the praises of your nation in November of last year when i put that poll thingy. "Nup we ain't top 10, we're too gusty, anyone who thinks otherwise is just being staunch". those were the more constructive replies... there were of course the usual bullshit remarks that occur everytime i post a thread on here as well. now if we head over to SA on ikiteboardin.com we hear a sweet chorus of praise and worship for Africa "oh we have it so good in Africa, the crime is terrible but our conditions are so damn good". Then we go over to seabreeze.com.au. "we have it soo good here in WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" is allways posted on forums.

8) haha i'm not fooled that easily... i'm not as stupid as you think scei

9) I never really thought for one minute that you'd agree with me kinawera. After all you ARE from christchurch.

I'm not from Christchurch, I just lived there for a few years. My origins are far more noble. You may henceforth refer to me as the Duchess of Greymouth.

And after reading your oddly schitzoid rant, I'll just point out one thing. I did say something along the lines of there being good kiting to be had here in Aust - there is. I never said it was s**t all the time. But it can be, and sometimes for good long periods at a stretch. People cope and even get the hang of it.

Apart from that I am not entirely sure of your point - you love NZ because it has the crappiest kiting known to man? You want a medal for living in Auckland?

Thrasher, my dear, you seem to have some unresolved issues with anger. Are you a little unsure of your jandle-handling capabilities? If you are struggling to keep up with the others, well, SORT IT OUT - this much typing is bad for a person.

The Duchess.

Having kited in Sydney for 3 years, I can say

Summer = awesome smooth Easterly sea breezes (when they happen)

Winter = Gusty, squally Westerly cr4p that's travelled 100's of km overland before hitting the lake you're trying to kite on.

So yes, they can have better conditions when it's on, but they can also compete with the worst Auckland has to offer.

I can't talk about WA with authority, only that the summer seabreeze is sensational!!!

cheers,

J

Can I just point out that Aaron Hadlow and Rueben Lenten started their careers in the UK and Holland, countries not exactly known for their smooth sea breezes and beautiful weather.

I think they could handle themselves in NZ.

harbour boosting, sideways buggying, harwood speed gps'ing, sometime kiteskiing, wave/washing machine kiting, gear breaking, driving about chasing the wind....
