Hi there I'm from Whakatane but live in Auckland during the year.
Lucky for you I'm going back to Whakatane this weekend.

Best place in Whakatane is Ohope Beach, just over the hill on eastern side of Whakatane. Ohope Beach works in a NW - N - NE - E.
NW and E are cross shore as you'd expect, and NNE is direct onshore.

With the forecast this weekend being strong SE I usually kite Ohiwa Harbour, which is down the end of Ohope Beach on the right. You can't miss it. Take Pohutukawa Avenue turn into Harbour Road (Vees off to Opotiki) stay on Harbour road until you get to a large grass area by the harbour, it has toilet and playground so you can't miss it.

I've kited there about 5 times, it was SW and quite gusty but easy to launch and plenty of flat water and gets gradually deep.

My cell is 027 4268 905 but due to crap (ie non existent) coverage in Ohope, best call on 312 5236 or just communicate via this thread.

Cheers and be good to catch u on the water.
I'm taking 12m and 9m, got big hopes haha.

Reuben

Hey sucker, the power of the pussy eh! Suckls you away from mint kiting on the East coast for sure! We'll send you the pics of the rest of us having a huge time, while you fester at some poxy lakeside bach with no wind.

Or you could visit Mangakino..

Frightened you must be a wake fagg..... Why dont you just shut the fuck up and ride your yellow boat all the way to the end of the lake. You might even like to try and get some massive air you are so used to getting. NOT!

Have a good weekend

the weather forecast for Tauranga today was 20kts from the SE with heavy thunderstorms but instead was 9kts from the NE with clear blue sunny skies - I would bring a big kite down too just in case... 8)

Ah true?
I guess the sea breeze usually dominates any forecast wind with south in it.
I guess the 16 and 12m will be accompanying me then.
And as usual, the forecast will probably be wrong and I won't kite at all..

If you want a guaranteed session on 7m or 5m and waves you could park a truck under - go to the south coast of Taranaki for the next week.

Forget about Oh Hopey

ahh the bliss of sitting in an office all day refreshing metservice every hour, anxious to get home and pump up, only to be greated by the odd shaking flax bush and gusts in the region of 2-5 knots.
HA!
Oh Hopey has total kiting population of umm 1 person.

Skyrider, where in Taranaki you suggest?

Kina rd.... 15 kms or so from Opunake.

Will be going off for the next 4-5 days with this anticyclone out to the SW & low pressure off the east coast.

The only thing you need to O hope about down there is that you have a small enough kite, short enough lines and a board with enough rocker
