TOPIC: HDTV movie stars wanted!

HDTV movie stars wanted! 6 years, 3 months ago #7596

i have been approached by a film director wanting to shoot kiteboarding this sunday. he is putting together a showreel for a new breed of broadcast camera, that takes exceptionally sharp images especially in slow motion etc. each frame can be blown up to A1 size for print publication etc etc. he has two camera operators travelling the country with him shooting for this project.

the selected kiting footage will be cut together with a bunch of other action sports and used at trade shows / retail environments etc showing off the new technology. there is no payment for talent but we will be supplied with a DVD of raw footage for our efforts.

i have agreed to meet the crew at either muriwai or raglan this sunday subject to wind and tides. we will make a final call on venue on saturday afternoon. i have assured the director there will be many keen show-ponies ready to strut their stuff, even if they are not co-ordinated with us. call me on 027 226 3203 to confirm venue and time etc if you are keen to be kept in the loop.

Forecast is looking real good for Raglan on Sunday, so I guess every show pony from Winstonville and Auckwakkaland is going to come to Raglan with filmstar fantasies....

Think I might head down the to Naki for some side/offshore waves. Believe it or not, there's still guys poling it down there with no idea why boardies go over wetsuits and they freak out when they see that surfboard + kite = Down the line surfing - Total domination.

we're coming down. don't think the TV weenies will stomach the drive to the naki though. might see you in the soup if you decide to stay local.

several books could be written about the events of sunday at raglan, but here a few key elements:

it pissed down for the entire time the film crew were there and cleared up 15 minutes after they left to provide a glorious late afternoon of sun and wind.

many people experienced carnage, tangle-ups, near drownings etc.

i myself was the subject of a two boat rescue after a 20 minute swim through 'salvage rights'.

trent is still a lousy barman.

there is a beautiful breath of fresh NewCal air in town at the moment.

Just add a camera for instant entertainment....

Don't know if he hugs trees but Hippy sure was hugging the lens like a fly hovering over shit.

I Managed to take Chicken legs & the manic Hippys kites out, so i was stoked to be doing my bit, making some space for the locals, albeit for a few brief moments.

The Raglan clubbies nearly finished the job on Miller - He was stuck way out on Salvage Rights, then drifting through the Elysian Fields - They came to the rescue, with a knife and their propeller...

They then spotted Jezza on a long drift/relaunch operation, he was just getting back to shore when one clubby decided to throw-launch Jezzas bar-tangled kite for him so all he could do was yell NOOO!!! - then look on helplessly as it looped uncontrollably & his lines cut into another clubbies neck knocking her off the rubber ducky.

A classic moment was watching the Hippy getting yelled at by Gavin to get out of the way of his jumping space next to the camera-boat, then both of them tangling & dropping their kites in the water, resulting in the Hippy losing his board.

All in all it was a shitty up and down gusty rainy day, totally boring, but for the added delights that only a camera crew & a boat full of clubbies could bring out.

Imagine how much more intense things would have been if Big-Nose or Trumpeter had been on the scene.
