Technically it is tube riders who fly baloons. We simply fly bags.

Balloon flying is the art of keeping your kite at 90 degrees while downwind of other riders - the same angle as flying a.... balloon

so in probably a less constructive way i was getting at the fact that if anyone is downwind -standing in the water or riding - ettiquette is to get your kite low as possible on the same tack so the that person upwind can enjoy themselves/pass - and the person upwind of that - and the person upwind of that - if you get the drift - rather than a full stop onshore traffic jam if you know what i mean...

i think you're talking about blimps. these were deployed in WWII to bring down enemy aircraft flying over civilian areas. they were characterised by a big bag of shit flying at 90 degrees exactly at the height required to effectively navigate the area. the blimp pilots would lie back with a good strong cup of tea and watch the carnage. rumor has it peter lynn developed most of his aerodynamic theories during this era.

They do seem to confuse people - i remember once at Orewa standing in the shallows flying my blimp with 2 other people on the water and out of no where a kamakazi pump pilot took my blimp straight out of the sky... I must have a bermuda blimp
