Just a quick update from team kiwi:

The single elimination started today with sloppy sideshore conditions on Perth's west coast. Dave Edwards and I were both entered in this KPWT event, and it looked as though we were up against some top competition. Dave made it through his first heat with a solid win against ozzy rider Zebb Peters, then lost the next heat. I managed to get through to the quater finals by beating Australian national champion, Adam Ratajowski (with a lot of luck), which puts me in the top 8.Tomorrow we will hold the rest of the single elimination and hopefully start the double.

GO KIWI!

Take it to 'em and show me the money. 15-20 knots sideshore for a comp huh? sounds pretty sick. NJOI

The wind finally filled in yesterday (understatement!). I got my ass handed to me by Thomas Cocqulet who went on to win the event. That left me with 9th place overall- still in the prize money and far better than anything I would have hoped for. Stoked! Dave Edwardss didnt manage to win his heat either and had to settle with 13th place - still an awesome result considering the caliber of riders competing.

Thomas Cocqulet and Tom Herbet were the standout riders of the comp. Tom Herbet was pulling off the most amazing looped handle passes, where he would almost get above the kite before throwing a sick 360 pass, then landing smooth as. Incredible to watch- especially as the wind was around 30 knots and the water was very very rough. Thomas one-upped him by doing looped front side 360's!

All in all a good comp, very glad I came.

p.s. Snider Carl, I was on Cabrinha kites and boards of course (so was the guy who won).

Respect, Jamie and Dave. You guys rock. Watch out Hadlow & Co.

Now if only you rode Peter Lynn and Underground instead of North and Cabrinha...

official press release from contest:

2005 KITEBOARD PRO WORLD TOUR
Gravity Games H2O 2005 presented by Vodafone
Perth Kiteboard World Cup

Mc Callum Park Perth Australia October 6th / 9th

Gisela Pulido and Thomas Cocquelet winners of the Perth Kiteboard World Cup, Gravity Games H2O !!!!

After two standing-by days waiting for the come back of the wind, we set back to Cottesloe beach this morning where we were lucky enough to end the men and women simple elimination and go through the loser bracket as well, thanks to good steady south-southwest wind reaching an average strength of 25 knots.

After some 6 hours of harsh competition and festival of amazing stunts from all the competitors, the AUD$38,500 event saw child superstar, 12-year-old KPWT World Champion, Gisela Pulido (Spain) surge well ahead of competitors to claim the championship title. Pint-sized Gisela beat 25-year-old Theresa McKirdy from Perth (Mullaloo) to win valuable competition points and rankings in the KPWT (Kiteboard Pro World Tour) World Cup.

The winner of the mens division was 18-year-old Thomas Cocquelet (France) who beat current World No. 1 Mickael Fernandez (France) to win the AUS$7,445 first prize. Runners-up in the mens were Tom Hbert (New Caledonia), local entrant Jake Gordon (Perth, WA) and Antoine Auriol (France). A good revenge for Thomas Cocquelet who missed the last brazilian stage victory during the winner final of the double elimination. Hes now leading the KPWT overall world ranking.

Gravity Games H2O was the first KPWT kiteboarding event in Australia and the first Pacific stop on the World Tour, preceded by rounds one to three in Italy, Turkey and Brazil.

Lets meet in another two weeks for the next KPWT stage in St Gilles Croix de Vie, France, october 26/2 november !!!!
