The simplest solution is 6mm stainless steel t-nuts. Can be bought from most marine chandlers and some hardware stores. Otherwise try your local stainless fastener supplier like ANZOR. You can either mount it in a piece of solid PVC glued into the PVC foam or cast it in place using a resin filler mix. Just beware that because they are open at the bottom using bolts longer than the insert will push out whatever is at the bottom of the insert and damage the board. Also don't get any resin in the threaded part.

Otherwise people use snowbard t-nuts(usually 1/4" threaded) or other threadserts that looks like a grubscrew with very course large pitch thread on the outside and the 6mm thread on the inside(usually cast or screwed into solid plastic to use in a foam core) Usually more expensive and harder to come by.

For any other questions ask on groups.yahoo.com/group/boardbuilding/

Have you thought about Plywood for the board .

You could build it in a weekend . That will give you time for the real fun , designing & building your own inflatable kite !

Check out " The Kiteboard Cookbook " and Saul's super cool site for the DIYer :

hi mcdee,

thnx for the hint, i had a look and it certainly is a way of making a quicky, but i still have plenty of leftovers from another composite project inclusive vacuum pump, plenty of resin and fiber. i don't think it'll take me much longer than a ply plank.

i found this one:

that looks more like it.

That's exactly the way I've built mine.

Foamcore boards aren't any harder or slower to build if you're set up with a rocker table and a vacuum pump. Once took a week off work and finished five boards. That's laminating one in the morning and doing the shaping or finish on the others while the resin is curing. I still had enough time in the day to attend to other projects. By comparison it took me nearly a full day to shape a plywood core.

Though ply boards are fun for dragging through shallows and over rocks.
