just a quick note to let anyone know that I am now living in Tonga & if anyone is up this way or planing a trip & needs any info about places to kite & accomadation, don't hesitate to ask I'll be glad to help out,

Shouldn't you be on strike?

Most comments I hear about travelling in Tonga are that unless you come on a yacht you will be dissapointed/frustrated. Trying to get around is hit & miss & the general attitude towards tourists was fairly hostile & capitalistic.

Please, give us your impressions/opinions.

Is it all flat water or are there some kiteable reef passes

Great if we were on strike, more kiting for me.
I heard the same things before I came out here, but it is'nt as bad as people make it out to be, it depends on what your expectations are. 5 * luxury, forget it. Its mostly flat water here on Tongatapu with a prevailing SE wind. There is a surf resort on the NW corner with some real good surf in the right conditons, not for beginners though. It seems the best surf is on the other islands further north. I have been up there with work, but not kited it yet. Looks promising though. The main reason I posted on this site is so that I could be of some help to anyone who was interested in coming kiting here. having someone that lives here & knows the place could be an advantage, Upto them if they want to use me.

I'm coming up to look at your bird next weekend for pionair. Any suggestions on places to stay on the islands close to the main one for the weekend and close to airport/town during the week to check out KSA ? the family are coming with me. What size kite would you recomend for this time of year if I can fit one in ?
