Hi to you New-Zealand kite-surfers!

I will be grateful to have some advices for a kite addict tourist " -

I am coming from Israel for touring your country with my family, 3 month in a motorhome, October till January, and would like to use this opportunity for kite surfing as well!

Pleasae provide me some information about -
Season?
Locations? (both islands, Flat water / waves)?
Wind ranges (what size of kites are recommended?)
Water temperature?

Thanks a lot and see you soon in the wind.

Hi Ron I kite in Auckland and hope to see you on the water.

Water temp is in the low to mid 20's in the main spots during summer.

The winds can vary from 20m kites to 8m kites and smaller but this depends on which beach you kite at. If you pick the right spot you can get away with using a 12m kite on most days, some days you may need an 8 and if you really get the wrong beach you won't be able to use anything at all... but us locals will make sure that doesn't happen. In general though we get 3 main wind directions in an Auckland summer, NE, SW and Thermal.

NE winds can get up to storm force, maybe even hurricane force on the odd occasion but most of the time it's just right for kiting.

SW winds are allways good for kiting, never too strong (you may need an 8 or a 6 on occasions) but strong enough to have fun on a 12.

Thanks! what about south island spots! 8 years, 8 months ago #534

Thanks!

what about south island spots - could you recommend?

By the way, I am 65kg, and got 12m (Gaastra) and 8m (takoon), so as you described, it probably fits well for Auckland spots!
