" Just on dark the helicopter responded to a report of a hang-glider in the sea. A boat had picked up what was understood to be a hang-glider, but there was no evidence of any pilot. The coastguard began a search off Manu Bay. The helicopter equpped with a longline, flotation devices & crewed by two St John paramedics, flew from Hamilton to Raglan to pick up a rescue swimmer before beginning a search. Just as the helicopter arrived in Raglan, only a few minutes before twilight, they were stood down. There was no one missing & what had been mistaken for a hang-glider was in fact a kite surfer. The helicopter landed at Raglan fire station before returning to Hamilton."

Hey, how was he to know some myopic member of the public was gonna ring 111 & tell Coastguard alot of bollocks about hang-gliders landing in the sea out off the mountain??
Might be time to re-evaluate the merits of flying a 20m in 5kts wind, 8kts current & luffing your kite just before sunset though!
