Is that true? Did yet another board snap.
Hardly up to the claims of hardest wearing.

When do you call a home built board anything other than home built?
I mean at what stage should you really call your board building a business.
Does a couple of stickers make the difference?

Just not sure customers who get sold a home bake board are getting a fair deal. Do the guys building these crispy crackers actually think they can build a serious business. If it is for personal use fine. But what is up with trying to rip off Undergrounds designs, sizes etc and claiming to be better.

Anyone with thoughts on the topic out there.

Do any of the customers who bought one and snapped it ever continue to ride them past the replacement model the get sold.

Since this appears to be at least partly directed at me I'll just set a few facts straight.

Decay Kiteboards has been in business for nearly two years, working out of a leased commerical property in Woolston Christchurch.

This is an old pic, before the spray booth was built.

Decay Kiteboards come with a one year warrantee on defects in materials and labour.

I haven't had anyone contact me recently in regards to a problem with their board. If as the above post suggests there is someone out there with an issue - please contact me directly on:-

Now that is a pretty respectable looking work shop from my angle.
I have heard Decay boards are great shapes and bloddy hard wearing to the max.
Oh and I have seen two Underground boards snap in front of me.
 But we all know it's not nice to point the finger don't we Crispy.

Re: crackers 8 years, 8 months ago #508

Snapping a board has hardly anything to do with how hard wearing it is as any board will break when you push it past it's limits. I have also seen many major brand name boards break. Not to mention recent product recalls from bad production runs. Though few of them can claim that they survive our harsh beaches and estuaries without getting their finish badly ripped up.

A business classifies as a business when it's registered and makes an income from providing a product or service. A good product or service will include a reasonable warranty, after sales service and retail support. A business will often provide a good product through research and devlopment learning from market trends and product failures. Major difference between this and building boards for you and your mates out of the shed.

Now show me any company's boards and I'll show you at least 5 if not 10 other boards that are close to if not exactly the same in size and shape. Similar to clothing nobody has ownership on sizes and styles and just because two pairs of jeans look similar it doesn't mean they were copied. Some shapes and sizes just work better and that's why they are so common.

I don't consider Underground small or home built....respect

But how many home/garage/small biz builders are out there?
Most don't TRUMPET their product but are still doing their thing.

does Taranaki have anyone?
Tauranga has at least one biz and a few home builders.
Auckland has a couple of guys labeling up boards + several guys building for personal use.
Anyone in Nelson? Dunedin?
Must be eh!
Must be a few quiter Chch guys that don't jump up and down like a small terrier on heat.
or not.
What about North Island, Raglan, Whanga etc.

Bound to be quite a few guys who like most kiters never go on the web.
Anyone able to list them

Re: crackers 8 years, 8 months ago #511

And if you don't jump up and down Crispy, how are you ment to get your name out there.

How would you run things,

What do you ride ?

Re: crackers 8 years, 8 months ago #514

It's because the other small business builders don't jump up and down that you don't know about them! So what you're asking is for the other small business builders to jump up and down like a small terrier on heat as well?

It's just called advertising... a common marketing technique. Where and how is just a matter of choice. You submit yourself to tons of marketing, why take such a strong interest in on particular business? Similarly this site is full of labels and adds to sponsor the site.

Yes but with you clowns putting shit up about him, bagging him and his product, mann why pay for advertising when he can get it for free.

REMEMBER

any advertising is good advertising.

THINK ABOUT IT SUNSHINE....

The only guys making boards in chch besides ug are DK and Tim stocky and good on 'em. It's pretty superficial when the only thing you can accuse someone of is being overly enthusiastic. Both guys have more energy to put into kiting than most and definately draw more new punters into it than others... just sharing the love. No gripes in the South.

Chris Brent and I just got back from our windiest NW sesh ever at Sumner. My pissy weak ToroII 8m storm kite managed to lift both Smithy and me. Chris I'm sure was on the limit of his 10m Guerilla. Equinox - been warmish and ride-able every day, not quite shorty yet though.
