you monkey!!
thats my kite bag, and i'm selling it cause i never use it!!
such a small bag, and all my kites like to cosy up together and exchange stories (of how far they catapulted me when i was least expecting it) so i bought them a bigger home...

but thanks for the publicity....it sold nicely!!

and cheers craig!! still i have failed to hook up with the dunedin crew on my second time round in the southern city...

Hey
The publicity must have been good cos I really didnt think anyone would buy it, But they did!
Anyway Kite bags are never really quite big enough. What sort of bag are you using now?

i never thought it would sell either but i was fed up of it lying around my flat, i just have them all in a 35l rucksack with my harness and stuff, makes it easier for flying back and forth from scotland if they dont all have their seperate bags..
its sweet to see that you all look out for each other here, if kites got stolen in scotland i reckon you'd have jack all chance of getting them back...
now if only dunedin had some better spots for the mountian board and the foils....i'd never want to go home!

Should come up to chch as we have a great spot for mountain boarding.

I second that.

It would be good to have another woman to motivate me to get out on the MTB or Buggy.

If you do come up, there's a pull-out couch in our lounge, just across the road from the spot Martin's talking about. It's even going to feature in the next UK PowerKite Magazine, that's the beach, not the couch!

Ask Craig for our details.

Cheers

I saw you today eating lunch on the back of the van  as we drove pasted and moved!

ooo, an adventure to chch? well i only have 3 weeks before i fly back home, but if you can guarentee me a gigantic hail free session :? (wtf is up with this weather?) it seems like fun...
i was up in chch just after the nationals and had a good cruise up and down the beach, but its not very wide and in the evenings when the wind was up it was slightly more exciting than intended...
so where is this fabled spot of greatness?

it's fairly wide at low tide

much wider than any of the beaches down here

and the wind is usually onshore not like here

although not so often at this time of year

yeah i was thinking that, i think it was half tide in the evenings when i was there. and the wind was just perfect during the day...but in the evening with only half the beach and big wind the jumps were taking me in the soft sand...not too much room to get it wrong.
i went out to long beach once when the tide was out, that was pretty good..
i miss the massive beaches a home in scotland!! (*sob) my local hang out has been in st andrews (yes - home of golf...) for years which has a great beach, the land around is all flat golf courses...nice clean air. still, only a few weeks til i'm home, and back to summer!

I find that if you hit the beach about 3 to 4 hours after high tide in Brighton, there is more than enough beach to play with, and it only gets better from there...

And if you go North of the pier, (sorry Su), you have almost 15kms for hard packed sand to ride in a good onshore....

Hey Mr spiglord

You can kite 3hours befor and after low tide which gives you LOTS of space (to do jumps) for 6hours.
Probably not the best time to come up to do some rideing as the wind is not the best.( And it hailing like mad!)
The south side is much better(only 5km to end and back) but not so far to walk if you stuff up(Wasnt me  )

Hey Sarah,

I've got heaps of work on at the moment, so will be in Christchurch for the next two months without a break

BUT when the wind's up I'll go play. This week's midday low tides, so will be good for land based kiting here at the beach. North or South of the Pier... it's the same beach ... and if you are good you just pop under it

The whole of Pegasus bay is rideable a couple of hours either side of low tide. Atleast up to Ashworths, where the beach becomes stoney. It all depends on if it's NNE or true E. This summer North Beach and further up have been good for Land boarding as it's been quite E and quite a couple of SE's have come through. Last summer it was horrible up there, as you had to tack back and forth to get anywhere as the winds were cross on shore from the left!

So give us a yell if you find time to come up and remember to check the tides.

Happy Kiting

Su

Hey Su
Would like to see someone go under the pier! How high is it and how far apart are the big pole surport things cos I never really thought it was possible.
Could do it on 10m lines.

done it on 20m lines with a cquad and a buggy

tried it with a 16m venom on 27's but the kite would barely fit

if you get the angle right you could prob do it without even slowing down

WICKED! 8)

I never really thought of doing it. I should give it a try some time on my quad(20m lines).
A 16m venom on 27's would be a bit freaky you really wouldnt want to stuff it up!
Im gonna go try it some time!

do it in light winds!

and the kite's gotta be really low to the ground

and low tide

and be CAREFUL coz u don't wanna get anything tangled on the pier or get dragged into the legs of the pier.

the problem isn't line length it's kite span

low enuff not to hit the pier!

the legs are close enough that you have to go through on the angle

go along by the water, put the kite through a gap downwind and go hard downwind to follow it through

try walking it thru first

Good advice Craig.

Hey Martin, I walked it with my 11m Fuel after doing a downwinder on the water from the Waimak and not getting upwind enough to go round the Pier. Have done it since with my 4.9 Blade on 30m lines (I think) on my Mountainboard. Kite drops back in window as it goes under, just like a lull, and then shoots forward when the wind gets it again... just be prepared and don't get yanked off front of board. Try it on a very low tide first, so that you have more space if you stuff up and more area under the pier to get through too.

Fingers crossed we'll see a NE this week!

Hey Martin,

Wind yesterday was perfect for doing the under the Pier thing... ok, in one direction! It was that blasted on shore from the right thing again, so I ended up doing a down-winder from South Brighton to North Shore. Light wind... maybe 8 knots in gusts. Beach became to small to tac back, so packed it up and hitched a ride back with english Dave who'd been out on his 16 venom and buggy... he didn't try the pier, because of angle!

Hope you all get kiting on the weekend!

cheers

Su

so how many kites got wrapped around the pier now?!! don't fancy getting that wrong!

no more visits to chch for me, i'm off back to my deserted beaches in a land with out surfers or swimmers. and importantly: the summer!! well at least, bonny scotland's attempt at a summer. which will hopefully be better than dunedin's this time!
