Hyundai New Zealand Kitesurf Nationals

Latest update!!!

We are really excited to announce that Hyundai are on board as our main sponsor.

Check the webpage nznationals.pray4wind.com for updated list of sponsors and important changes under the rules section.

There are some ideas to help you organize accommodation.

You need to pre-enter to get the better rate and to help us with organization.

There are also parties to have, lunch and liquid, heaps of wind all with TV coverage.

Look forward to meeting some new faces in February.

My brothers
The God Lord Allah and a little help from Big A have put together a fine nationals competition. But alas I cannot attend - I have read the rules and find rule 43 culturally unacceptable and feel it only right to show my disgust, and refrain from attending I know many will be disappointed but I know my brother Lee will stand by me on this. I wish all competitors well but the winner will not be the true number one in NZ without Osama in attendance

from the visible obscenity rule...

how do you make an obscene gesture with your riding equipment? :?

doof
harbour boosting, sideways buggying, harwood speed gps'ing, sometime kiteskiing, wave/washing machine kiting, gear breaking, driving about chasing the wind....

obscenities are defined as words commonly know and understood to be profane

If required, some of us around can provide some french obscenities that would not be commonly known or understood.
Just need a bit of practice and it will do the trick , and it will sound sooooooo gorgeous!

Not bad for a Kiwi...
You could do better, but I'd give you a B- for trying.

"Encul" or "gros PD" would have been more powerful.

I received today a newsletter from ikiteboarding.com, and there was a topic about NZ nationals... Even if the following sounds to me like a good idea, I thought there was already some kind of problems with expat kiwis or foreign kiters willing to compete in the NZnationals, therefore I'm quite surprised with this...
A comment from the board of directors ?

TOP SA RIDER INVITE - New Zealand Nationals

New Zealand are about to have their Kite Surf Nationals (Based in
Christchurch - South Island). Dates are from the 18-20 Feb
Having a good history of competition between the bocks and the blacks,
they thought it would be a good idea to have the top South African kite
surfer competing in this event.

A New Zealand local (an ex-South African) is willing to put the first
R1000 down as sponsor for the Top South Africans flight over there. Free
accommodation will also be offered. We are sure we could get a few more
Kiwi Dollars to help out with the air ticket.

What we need to confirm is : who is the current SA champ, and how we can
get this person over there.

I wrote that on Ikiteboarding as I thought it would be nice to get some foreign kite surfers into New Zealand. All the kite surfing events that take place in South Africa have a large number of kite surfers from Europe another other countries.

After I placed the post on the forum I read the rules and found the following.

The NZ Nationals is open for riders with a NZ passport or riders residing in New Zealand for over 3 months.

I would not have written that post had I known that only kiwis are aloud to compete. I was not in NZ for the last Nationals (Event thought I have been in NZ for almost 2 years). Ian C said there were quite a few foreign kite surfers at the last event. I guess the rules have changed to make it more localised. Nothing is in concrete and I can get the post removed.

It would be a good idea to have a foreign invite section as we dont have many comps. I know some of my mates in Cape Town would like to come over and Kite Surf in NZ If that is not possible, I will let the guys know.

Look at this

www.ecan.govt.nz/Our+Environment/Water/S...uth+Christchurch.htm

Humphries drive is where the comp is.

Very Poor: Avoid swimming, as there are direct discharges of faecal material. Permanent signage will be erected at the site stating that swimming is not recommended.

Water-quality tests and assessment of potential contamination sources indicate sites within this category are considered to have very poor water quality. These sites receive run-off from one or more of the following sources and may contain animal or human faecal material:

* untreated/primary/secondary treated wastewater
* on-site waste treatment systems
* tertiary treated wastewater
* urban stormwater, marinas or moorings, intensive agriculture
* river discharges containing untreated/ primary/secondary treated wastewater or on-site waste treatment systems.

Re: Hyundai NZ Kitesurf Nationals 7 years, 3 months ago #4435

alas - these are well known and documented facts. i propose that anyone who actually ventures out on the southern men's excrement gets awarded a post-humous award for valour, regardless of their placing at the contest.

i pray i will resist all peer pressure and won't be tricked into going out there and
that we get every other wind direction but the dreaded pooey doctor or proctologist as it's sometimes known.

some waves on the bar would be nice too - give us old timers a chance!

I can't see what all the concern is. Sailing in Auckland is far worse.I see some awfully large pieces of excrement floating around at Meola Reef .. most of them on kite boards.
It doesnt seem to have affected the standard of riding in Christchurch. Most of the Underground guys kite just fine although they do stink a bit.
Any one coming down for the Nationals should expect to be talking shit for at least a couple of days anyway.

True, although most people make a distiction between talking shit and eating shit. I think the pooey gives the Chch locals ultimate hometown advantage, most of the Jaffa's will be queing at the one toilet in the carpark by Saturday moring Besides, as Kane pointed out, the 20,000 liters of diesel should get rid of most of the really nasty stuff. Oh and Shaan we do seem to see you on the pooey most times you come down, actually there's still the funniest piece of kiting boarding footage ever involving you a slider and some pooey brown water. No shit eating grin there!

Not a lot of wind yesterday - 10 knot teaser until late in the evening - a few getting out on large kites and surf/skim boards.

Just as the tide was dropping the wind kicked up to 15 knots and 30+ kites hit the water. Has to one of the craziest sessions I've ever seen - with barely enough room to ride let alone do double kite loops - but that didn't stop some people trying.

Today's weather report has 10k rising 15k - should be game on from 11am...

WWWWoooooooooooooohhhhhhooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Awesome day - sunshine and wind in the upper teens - they managed to run a full set of heats in the open + womans, juniors and masters.

Looks like there will be results from every division from today.

More later - we're off to party!!!

Open winner - David Edwards - North/Underground

Womans winner - Susan Kay (Stoked!!!!!) - Slingshot/Decay

Junior winner - Mark Jacobs - Slingshot/Slingshot

Legends winner - Gavin Broadbent - Slingshot/Slingshot

Best trick - Paul Jackson - L3 (unhooked kiteloop to flat air pass!) - North/Underground

Awesome comp, thanks to Delphine and Adrian.

Today we had over 20 knots and a freeride best trick comp - 30+ kites on the water and some very progressive moves being thrown down.

Plenty of pics and Neil has a rough cut video out already - I'm sure it will all be up on the site shortly.
