I really doubt there is anything gonna happen in Auckland. Then again if summer stays away (it's still windy at the mo so it ain't summer) then the kite nats would actually happen for once. The real reason why the South Island allways has the nats is that the South Island allways has the wind.

At least in chch there is a high chance of it blowin... you never know what's gonna happen in Auckland... and i think a kite comp would exceed the 85db limit so there would be too many complaints from locals
eastern beach hates my guts because i did a big crap in my wetsuit whilst out there kiting 6 years ago. That's why i'm the most unpopular kiter in NZ. Beast from da east reprazent mutha f#$$%@ers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just read the rules. It's good to see that the huge problem of obscenities in kiteboarding has been addressed. Of cause section VII 44 covers audible obscenities so I should be right with a tee shirt saying "smart arse fucker" or something like that.

Except the shirt would automatically be changed to "smart arse screwer"

Well when you hit a gust and go flying through the air towards a power pole, you are hardly going to politely say "goodness gracious"... the only that ever comes to mind is "FUUUUUUUUUUUCKK!!!"...

Can any of you flick me a couple of good sites to check wind conditions... I have just relocated over here from Aussie and trying to get my head aroudn the different conditions etc... beach reccie is ont he cards this w'end..

windsurf.co.nz for current wind conditions. The new weather graphs are quite useful.

buoyweather.com for surprisingly accurate 6 hourly wind forecasts - good for longer range planning for kite missions

metvuw.com/forecast for forecast isobaric maps (click on the New Zealand region bit) - very handy for the overall weather picture, ties in closely with the buoyweather data, and gives a good indication of where the rain is.

the only thing the metservice site is good for is tide times - their forecasts are wildly inaccurate - always 5 - 10 - 20 knots overstated.

Thanks for that... all part of my fav's now. I heard a rumour that it is against the law to kite after sunset now? Is this true?

Also, do you guys recommend that booties are worn? I heard you have quite a few stingrays in the water in the shallows?

Cheers,
T

The after-dark rumour is a new one on me - someone pulling your leg I suspect (unless you are pulling mine!). Same goes for the stingray thing unless you are kiting at Rangiputa up north. Booties needed only at Shoal Bay, Pt Chev, Meola Reef - inner harbour spots.

Raglan wil be cranking this weekend.

kiwi(ozzy) kiterchic, where abouts in auckland are you gonna be mostly kiting?

Dunno where on earth you got the rumour of kiting banned in NZ after sunset . Kiting is not banned ANYWHERE in NZ. all us here are hopefully quite keen on keepin it that way, some places are more dodgy than others of course.

As for nasty things in the water like stringrays. i'm sure that compared to Aussie the water creatures in our waters won't give ya any probs, we even have dolphins to keep the sharks away.

Anyway hope ya enjoy it on this side of the creek. I'm lookin forward to visitin OZ one day.

Hey thrasher, recently I have been spending all my time at Shoal Bay getting my board skills up to scratch. It is a good time to kite over here as there are not too many kiters around and you dont have many restrictions in place. Coming from Oz, it iis so foreign to me being in the water in the middle of December and wearing a full steamer and booties.. Auckland is a great place, but the weather is so crap!!! You will love Oz, it is a great place... Perth in particular !

I am not ruling out a move to Perth within the next few years... won't be yet though.

Yep the inner city beaches have such lovely water. I love the brown hue. I love it when you get dragged by ya kite that ya swallow more dirt than water... and i'd dread to think what else i'm ingesting too. On the plus side it keeps the swimmers at bay so it's actually a good thing

In a twist of irony the place that gets the most baggin on matters of water quality (the manukau harbour) has much cleaner water than any of the inner city spots including all the eastside beaches as well. The only place in AK that MAY have better water quality is the west coast. But i look at dirty water as a good thing... less crowded with swimmers.

oooops i read that wrong.... i thought you said the WATER was crap.

But i reread your post and you said WEATHER. Ok i look at "bad weather" in a positive light. This summer the weather has been "crap" even by our standards.... so i can understand the shock you are experiencing. But bad weather means lots of wind, no waiting for the afternoon to kite.... wind doesn't stop blowing. I'm lovin this unsettled weather... no-one is gonna get kiting banned if this wind continues because we won't be prancin around at Orewa in 8 knots with 1000 people on the beach and then we drop our 30m kites on a family with 6 kids... put em all in hospitial... bye bye kiting at Orewa.

In this stuff people normal people don't go near the beach, Orewa is offshore in this stuff anyway and 8m kites (sometimes smaller) are more the weapon of choice.... so if this weather continues this is gonna be one excellent summer of kiting.

Nah silverfox, virtual buoys isn't the best site to check....

If your thinking of going Tow in surfing @ Orewa....

go to virtualgirl-desktop.com/virtualgirls/

This is the site that Miller must use to check the swell size.

Kiwikiterchick. Do not trust the drunken musings of a Waikato hick, especially one with a dungeon for gimps and other perversions. We sophisticates of the North Shore are above such sleazy behaviour.

The fox

Give him a drink and he's anyones... give him two drinks and he's everyones!!

Ahh I love good area rivalry, sounds like we have similar class distinctions in Sydney, always good to stereotype deserving individuals... (note to self, refrain from admitting current suburb of residence)....

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

I think every post should have a second title space. That way, as it invariably happens, the post can have a second name as the discussion progresses, or digresses in this case...
