Canterbury Kiteboarding Champs 11th and 12th December 2004

Skippers meeting is at 11am on Saturday the 11th of December @ the Christchurch Estuary car park.

Cost: CWA members $15, non-members $25

The format for the comp will be:-

3-4 hour expression session - judge by rider vote i.e. after the session all riders will vote on their top four.

From those results we will find the top eight riders and three judges from those that didn't make the top eight.

We will then run two, four man, 10min semi-finals with the top two in each going thru to a 10min 4 man final shoot out.

There will be a BBQ on the Saturday night - venue is still TBA, and a prize giving on the Sunday night at a local pub.

If you have any questions please call Dave Kay on 021 654 149 or Tim Stockman on 021 542 770.

We are looking for sponsors for the weekend spot prizes mostly if you would like to be involved please contact Tim on the above number.

Only a few more days to go and all the little details are just about sorted - long term forecast is looking like NW for Saturday - lets hope that changes to NE by the day.

As an update - Prize giving will be at the Bridge Bar - upstairs at the Ferrymead Taven - from 6pm or contest finish - which ever is later.

Current sponsors list:-

Eastcoast
Kitesports
Dakine
Groundswell
Underground
Decay
SuK
YHA hostels
Temple Basin ski area
CWA
Sub20

In fact the sponsorship has been SO good it is going to be well worth the $15/$25 to enter - there is a good chance you won't go away empty handed - no matter what your final result.

As always give Tim or I buzz if you have any questions.

Add to that sponsors list 'H2OFLY' clothing! Thanks Morgan.

Venue for BBQ on Saturday will be advised on the day - it depends on where the comp venue ends up.

Weather report is saying 'light winds' for both days over the weekend - with any luck that will become 15k NE by Saturday afternoon.

Estuary will be ridable from mid-afternoon but we need to meet early just in case of a venue change to Lake Ellismere (will only happen if the wind is looking NW/S). If the NE builds fast enough the freeride will be kicked off at South Brighton and moved to the estuary as the tide allows. We have water and daylight available until nearly dark on Saturday so there is good window for the comp to run.

I know Gavin is on his way down from AKL, are there any other out of town riders arriving for the weekend?

I've thrown this site together for the event:-

www.decaykiteboards.co.nz/cantchamps/

It was meant to have its own URL but the freehosting site I planned to use has been shut down.

There are links to most of our sponsors on there; pics from the event will go up as we get them through.

Cheers,

Hi Guys,

Just got back from from the prize giving.

The wind didn't show for today, so the contest was rider judged only on yesterdays conditions.

Thanks go out to all that entered - 30 people all up - double last year! With crew coming from as far afield as Auckland, Nelson and Dunedin.

We were very well supported by our sponsors - in fact everyone that entered managed to find a least a t-shirt in the spot prizes.

A special thank you must go to Temple Basin Ski Area which came up with a weekend for two on their Ski Field for both the Open and Womans winners.

Now for the results:-

2004 Canterbury Champs

Open

1st - Aaron Smith, Naish/Underground
2nd - Gavin Broadbent, Slingshot/Slingshot
3rd - Kane Hartil, North/Underground

4th and Top Junior - Ben Pitcaithly, Cabrinha/Underground

Womans

1st - Susan Kay, Slingshot/Decay
2nd - Delphine Ducaruge - Globerider/Fone

Congrats to you all!

Neil managed to put a few mintues of video together tonight which he showed tonight - no doubt it will end up in his next feature.

I have some other pictures to put on line in the next few days.

We also managed to get some coverage on TV3 news last night.

I hope everyone that entered enjoyed the event, it was a much more stressful job that I ever expected.

Next event - Decay Freeride 8th and 9th of January - Lake Coleridge, Canterbury - see you there!
