hi guys

i am in Durban, SA at the moment and it is cranking, thanks to madness for some help!

i am hoping to get in some kiting in february. i did i trip around the north island over jan/feb this year and foudn very little wind. does anyone know where the wind does blow at this time of year. i heard nelson does... if this is the case, does anyone know of any accomodation in nelson near the good spots for students

Never mind the North Island why don't ya just stay in the South Island. What about Dunedin.. doesn't it blow there at that time of year? Summers the off season for many north island spots - especially Auckland. It's still ok if you've got a big kite though. But yeah the south island goes off during summer.

if you're planning to visit Nelson, I'd recommend staying at 'The Beach Hostel' in Tahunanui - it's walking distance to the beach, and most visiting kite surfers end up finding there way there

yes dunedin does blow but i'd prefer to spend my summer somewhere else

bigbird: i can't seem to find a beach hostel in Tahunanui using a google search. do you have a website so i can check out prices etc?

For Christchurch the Marine is a great place to stay. Christchurch has good sea breezes over the summer.

Fear has found the site for you - Colin at the Beach Hostel is a pretty relaxed bloke, used to kitesurfers and all their gear - he has regulars come back each year cos its that good.

I liked it so much I moved to Nelson after coming here on hols!

The Marine in Christchurch is a great place too - 1 block from the beach, a place to sleep and a pub all rolled into one - does it get better? And Christchurch is one of the bigger kiting scenes in NZ, so you'll find plenty of friendly locals to hang with. Again, they're used to kitesurfers staying.

after arriving on thursday 2 weeks ago to no wind i was feeling quite down regardig my prospects. but sunday through to tuesday had some great wind. thanks for the tips!

It's got a small tear ( 4cm's ) on the leading edge wing tip being repair today.
