i will travel for 4 month round the world, so it will be very uncomfortable to take my own gear with me. Where can I rent gear in New Zealand? 4 month without kitesurfing would be very hard :?

Don't bother renting some gear.
As far as I know, there is nothing like this around here. Maybe you can rent something on a spot, but this won't be convenient if you travel in the country and if there is no shop around.

The real option is to buy some gear for cheap, use it as much as you want, crash it as much as you want and after your 4 months, you can sell it for even cheaper before you leave. Or take it back with you or give it to a friend or whatever. At the end of the day, even if you throw it away you'll have spent much less money than with a rent.

There are lots of REALLY good deals for second hand gear here, and you can find some decent gear for let's say 500NZ$ for a good 12m 2002 kite with bar, same for the board. Assuming you'll bring your wetsuit and your harness with you, it is surely much cheaper than a rent, if any... and it's your gear.

However, I don't really see why not taking your own gear with you, if you plan to hitch hike all around the country, fair enough, but in this case, you won't kite much for sure...
