After too long on the mud island, I'm heading back to Tauranga for a lifestyle again. I'm still fairly much a novice at kite surfing (not real easy in London). I'm returning with just one kite, a pretty clapped out 12m North Rhino.

What size kite would be most suited to Tauranga conditions, if you had to compromise initially on just one kite?

Really good crew down there in Tauranga.
Go to the beach and meet the crew and talk to the riders about the conditions. And yeah pop into assault to see Glen.

A one Kite quiver is a bit light for the changable NZ conditions and Kite size is going to depend on your weight.
If your 65kg, you will hardly use a 16m if those solid Sea breezes push in all summer long. But at 80kg it would be mint.

A 16m, 12m, 8m combo is a sweet combo.
or a two kite quiver of a 16m & 10m is also great.
Loads of cheap kites around now, so you'll be right mate.
