It's crossoff out at Eastern Beach. It's a good strength at the moment, 15 knots... easily enough for my 20 but very very gusty as expected with crossoff winds. I'm not too enthused about heading to Shakespear Bay today as it'll be about 15 knots at best and I only like goin there if it's 20+ .

It's one of days where it's blowin straight up the country so tends to have different bearings wherever you go. Hopefully a small Thermal influence may swing it a bit more onshore here and with the outgoing tide (low in the arvo) Eastern may be happening in a few hours time.

Yeah it was definately blowin today. Anyone know of a good beach in Auckland that gets SSE winds. If it had more east in it then it would have rocked out at Eastern. I could have used my 12m X2 today.... but that direction's a shocka.

Hey anyone go out to Shakespear today?

Yeah, I got going, in the gusts which were never more than 6 knots!
But it was a pretty sad case of no wind to speak of. I am wondering about Green Bay in the Manakau if its the same as tomorrow. It always seems to be the same when Met Service post a wind warning I can never find it!
I live in hope for tomorrow.
Andy

Green Bay? Is there a beach there? I heard someone say something about some new beaches goin in there. Yeah there are some interesting south facing spots on the Manukau. Hey where is Jenkins Bay? I went lookin about a few weeks ago and couldn't find it. I was in the right place but it seems quite hidden. Anyway a very nice open spot to the south.

Who else got wind today?

Hey Johnny... Pine Harbour is one of my regular spots. I'm not a huge fan of it in a southerly but anything with west in it will work there. However it's best in light to moderate winds as the 30 knots stuff tends to be gusty. 15 knots there is mint and I may head out there today as this winds despite being forecast to be SE is actually from the SW!! And as it's not too strong today it should be pretty good there. High tide is at noon or just before so it'll be pretty good I'm hopin.

As for the other spots. I've never actually kited at Mairatai but for the nutters it faces north and there is a wharf there to play with

Around the corner is a more East facing beach that has an even bigger wharf.

Hey Johnny where are the south facing spots there? I can only find one that face north.

Hey Johnny I went out to Pine Harbour today as the wind swung slightly SW. Anyway it was quite gusty on the beach but once out a bit it wasn't too bad. A tad underpowered at times but the wind was still filling in, it definately need some more west in it.

What are the best spots on the west coast in Southerly winds? In real strong winds the anser is real simple by the way...... Shakespear Bay but in lighter stuff I'm not so excited.

Sunday 03/08/03 and it was 6 knots again!
I got going on my 16.5 Flysurfer Warrior and 7'6" directional but otherwise there was not a lot happening!
It was smooth and consistant just light.

To get to Green Bay you follow Portage Road South then another road. I checked it out at about 11.00am todayand it was only 4-5knots and I was too scared to go in at a new site on my own even if it had been a knot or two more. Had it been 10 knots I might have given it a go.
Andy.

Yikes someone actually has a flysurfer kite here in Auckland.

Hey Andy is it pretty open at Green Bay? If so then that's probably the reason why it was so light. I find open spots only work when it's quite windy, like in normal winter and spring winds ( this light breezy stuff isn't the normal winter stuff that i've come to know and love). However if it wasn't for the southerly direction then Pine Harbour would have gone off today. In the gusts I was well powered with my 12m X2 and my plyboard and it was steadily picking up too. But the wind wasn't quite getting into the bay proper so it was a bit gusty. I'm interested to know if anyone went out to the Tamaki Estuary today cos it may have been blowin there too. Also anyone out at Shoal Bay or the Manukau Heads? (Kaitarakihi, Huia etc)

We need to get some crew trips organised for the summer. Maybe the odd session on the Manukau Harbour. Won't go there by myself as it is too dangerous with tides, currents etc.

The odd trip to Kaitarakihi or Huia would be pretty mint as well as more inner spots like Ihumateo Rd, once again a very open beach that needs lot's of wind but the wind it gets is butter smooth.

Who is able to kite this week?
